I've hit rock bottom

Re: I've hit rock bottom

Too each their own. I don't care what everyone says, some types of music call for scooped mids.

Re: I've hit rock bottom

I have a scooped mid distortion pedal in case I need/fancy it, but almost never really feel like it. I used to LOVE the scooped sound but now I really don't like it, but yeah, there are times that it might be the best sound for the job.

Re: I've hit rock bottom

Not saying scooped mids are always bad. I just find with the metal zone in particular it doesn't work. Maybe with a pedal that has the 3 knob tone control like an amp ... But the mid freq knob makes it harder for me to dial in a mid scoop tone.

Re: I've hit rock bottom

I used to use it scooped years ago (well, the DF7 on METALZONE setting) and it sounded good to me at the time. I also had it set like that for the guitarist of my first band. When I listen back to our recording sessions, that tone was just nasty though.

Re: I've hit rock bottom

It's supposed to be nasty. It's Metal.

Re: I've hit rock bottom

Not a huge MZ fan. I had one a few years ago and I totally destroyed it while trying to do Monte Allum mods to it...

I would find the Behringer version if you really want one, or get a used model. Otherwise, there's other distortion boxes that are way better.

Check out Lone Wolf FX, I had a chance to jam on a Black Mesa pedal last week through a Marshall and a Sunn O))) beta head and it was brutal sounding.

I did better, I got a MZ clone given to me free. The clone sounds alright when dialed in. Not a sound I see myself using a lot but useful.

^^
I sent mine to Keeley several years back. Never regretted it. Even at the original MT-2 setting, it has more clarity and tonal range. The modded modes can hurt you, especially through a half stack.

Re: I've hit rock bottom

No matter how nasty Metal is supposed to be, there's better tools than a Metal Zone these days.
Got one laying around? Mod it. Don't have one? Get something different.

I don't know, are those Blackstar dirt pedals any good?

So wait, are you saying that a modded one could do the job?
