just got a j-bass copy. (brownsville) it was super cheap and i wanted a bass. Im gonna eventaully just gonna turn it into a franken bass, and im gonna start with tuners, bridge, electronics, and pickups. (body and neck, pickgaurd and control plate later on) so what reccomendations do you all have for the pups, pots, tuners and bridge? i may keep the bridge and tuners for now, since i havent had problems with them yet

Re: j-bass pickups.

depends on what sound you want but the vintage for jazz bass is a great classic tone
as far as the pots, id use cts brand 250k audio taper.

Re: j-bass pickups.

anyone else? - i dont really know bass tone, but i play mostly rock, classic rock, mellower stuff. i wouldnt mind some tonal versatility....but prbly a vintage or classic bass vibe

Re: j-bass pickups.

I use a SJB-2 Hot in my bridge and a STK- J1 Stack in the neck.I also have
a Schaller bridge. The Bridge Improves sustain and the PuP combo gives me
a Fat tone with a Lil' grind from the bridge PuP.

Re: j-bass pickups.

I like the Bad Ass bridge that's on my buddy's Jazz, and Hipshot makes some good units for Carvin. As far as pickups go, I haven't the slightest idea. :burnout:
