j-bass sound from a p-bass hole

drew_half_empty

Looking for Real Life
is there any p-bass sounding pickup for j-basses? like a stack or something thats a direct replacement, no new holes to cut, for the bridge position of a j-bass?

i assume i'll need new tone pots, right?

Re: j-bass sound from a p-bass hole

There really isn't a 100% effective way to get a P sound out of a J. The closest you'll get is to run the neck pickup at full, bridge at 0 and EQ a bit more low mid into your amp than you normally would.

Re: j-bass sound from a p-bass hole

yeah but i want a p-bass special sound, so i'd rather have both. Doesn't duncan or dimarzio or SOMEONE make something that'll get it close?

Re: j-bass sound from a p-bass hole

or atleast a fatter fuller bassier replacement? i'd rather not have one thats just SLIGHTLY more like that, cuz i wasn't intending to replace both pickups

Re: j-bass sound from a p-bass hole

stacked humbuckers thicken it up a bit... dimarzio should be able to help with that one, they're "edgy" pickups are pretty thick sometimes. I guess... if you got a stacked and split humbucker you could wire it in parrellel like a P-bass pickup... of course... it would already be in parrelel... so, I'm retarded.

Re: j-bass sound from a p-bass hole

so what humbucker would you reccomend? I'd like a nice mid position between it & the J pickup, but its not a necessity
