So recently I rewired my Squier short scale jag bass with J/B combo. I put the pickups in series directly to a volume pot. There's no tone control or independent volume knobs. I found there to be more hum as expected. So I put electrical tape around the connection on the pickups then I wrapped the pickups in foil. I then grounded the foil with a ground wire. It appears to have cut quite a bit of the hum even so much as that there is minimally difference in the amount of hum when touching the strings as opposed to lifting my hands of the strings. And the bass is now a monster for rock. With it's stock wiring I found the bridge pickup was too thin and the P pickup in the neck was to bassy so I always ran it in parallel but felt that it gave me a little of that strat quack. That's when I got the idea to run it in series. I'm thinking about adding a couple of dark switches. Each with different values. I prefer to flip a switch to the tone I want vs. trying to dial it in just right with a knob.
What are you guys' thoughts on the shielding idea, sound, etc.
