Jackson Dinky 2 pickups

Hello to everyone,

I recently acquired a used Jackson Dinky 2 guitar with Seymour Duncan pickups. Its a single neck,a middle single and a humbucker bridge. The two singles have problems and only the humbucker sounds good. The serial number of the pickups is STK-S1N0810. Can anyone help me?Are these pickups SD original?

Yes they are original SD's ... when you say they have problems what problems do you mean?

Re: Jackson Dinky 2 pickups

The H-S-S DK2 from the early 2000s came with Duncan Designed SC-101s in the neck and middle, and I'm not aware if the newer ones come in anything other than H-H format, so the possibility that a previous owner botched the installation is high.

Double-check the wiring and make sure they're done right.

Re: Jackson Dinky 2 pickups

My dk2 very much came with stock stk-s1's, when SD discontinued them they gave Jackson a cut rate deal on remaining stock

Re: Jackson Dinky 2 pickups

Interesting. Must be why/when they changed to the 2-hum format. That means DK2s with S1s are transition models.

Previous owner may have swapped them out for something else and then back before they sold it. It happens. Factory wiring from Jackson is rarely bad, especially the Japan models.

Anything can happen to used guitars during their lives - water damage, cross-country gigging, someone's 3-year-old steps on it, dog pees in it, beer, sweat, puke, atomic radiation, Spaghetti-Os, whatever.

If you're sure the middle pickup is dead, yank it and put in a new one. If you've got a multimeter, you can check the pickups for continuity and impedance values to be sure they're at spec or well below.

Re: Jackson Dinky 2 pickups

I ve checked them with multimeter.Their values are low.Btw the dead pickup was the neck one.The middle was ok.So i put him at the neck position and replaced the middle position with a cheap pickup of 20 euros (I dont remember the brand,i think its squier). The guitar sounds better but the pickup at neck position doesnt split well.

Re: Jackson Dinky 2 pickups

You should get roughly half the full reading when you check the split (red+white). If it's considerably lower than half, it could have a short.

Re: Jackson Dinky 2 pickups

Why dont split well?Of course there is a reason to split well. When i try to split them i hear a volume difference.

They are designed to be noisless single coils... to do so they have 2 coils stacked. The lower coil is too far from the strings to read them well it is really there only to lend itself to noise cancellation. Of course you hear a volume difference but that is just showing you that both coils are working.

Man they just dont sound good.I have a Fender Strat with H-S-H Seymour Duncan pickups but sounds great. At my Jackson they just dont sound good.I think i will replace the 2 singles.
