Jackson DK2 & Seymour SSL4 Quarter Pound

Hey everybody,

New to the forum but hopefully somebody can help me out :)

I fitted an SSL4 Quarter pound pickup into the neck of my Jackson DK2.

Im having problems with volume. To get anything out of this pickup I have to crank the guitar & amp (marshall 100watt 2x12) to max volume and I then get 'some' sound, but if i flick it back over to the single coil in the neck or the bridge bucker the amp goes to how loud it should be (nearly pushed a window out :)) In the mix there are a tone pot, a volume pot (both A500K) the tone pot has a 2A223J capacitor soldered to it, and a 5 way switch... thats all.. Ive checked all the solder points out OK. Have tried raising and lowering the pickup all the way both ways but this didnt seem to make a great deal of difference in volume.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I just wanna crank this thing :D

Sounds like a wiring issue... Try checking the way its wired. Make sure no "poorly working" joints.

Hi mate,

Thanks, ive checked out the wiring. It all appears to be OK. Ive resoldered the joints just in case with no difference...

bloody thing

Oh gee.. I really wonder what could be the matter then..

Perhaps give this a few hours, someone when they wake up with more knowledge will come round and help ya.

Re: Jackson DK2 & Seymour SSL4 Quarter Pound

Thanks mate.. hopefully they will

I was all ready last night to get my new pickup in and crank it till the roof caved in :D I was pretty gutted that it didnt go right :) Y'know how it is

Re: Jackson DK2 & Seymour SSL4 Quarter Pound

Did you put it in the neck or middle?

It seems it's middle... In which case I don't know what could be wrong really, it's a fairly hot pickup.

Re: Jackson DK2 & Seymour SSL4 Quarter Pound

On the bottom of the pickup are 2 solder points where the coil attaches to the white and black cables. The springs that go under the pickup were barely touching the solder points when i screwed it in causing hot to ground itself... Bit of electrical tape and voila...

This pickup f'n rox!... now its working anyway :D

Thanks

Re: Jackson DK2 & Seymour SSL4 Quarter Pound

May I ask how the pickup sounds now?Isn't it too hot for neck position (i've got the same guitar and was looking for the ssl-4 neck)?

I have a Hot Rails in a Jackson SL3 neck position and it sounds great, so I wouldn't worry too much about an SSL-4 being too hot.
