Jackson DKMG or DXMG, which should I buy ?

Well even though I'm getting close to being considered an "old" man, I've got a little desire to relive a bit of my youth and the first guitars I used to have were some Charvel, Jackson and BC Rich "metal" guitars.

Jackson has always been my personal favorite for the thrashy styles, and I'm not trying to say they are the best, just what I prefered for whatever reason.

Given I don't want to drop a ton of money on something thats not my main instrument, I'm looking at the cheaper Dinky line. Soloist would be sweet but I'm not spending $1800+ on a metal guitar.


So the two choices that looks best would be the DKMG and DXMG

Pretty similar best I can tell cept the DX has EMG HZ pickups which would of course need to be changed. The DK already has EMG 81/60's so its good to go as far as thats concerned.

Cool thing about the cheaper DX though is the sharkfine inlays which I always thought looked cool. the DK has some really small ones, though a plain neck can still look cool.


Anyways, specs on paper are just that, so I'm hoping to get some insights from actual forum bros with their thoughts, insights etc

If you can get the DKMG, that easily beats the DXMG.
The DK has a better neck, much nicer to play.
And as you can already tell, it's already loaded from the factory with much better pickups.

The DXMG has only two color options. The DKMG has at least five (though more). The DKMG has an archtop while the DXMG has not. Blah, blah, blah...

IMO, they are both keen imports and I even wanna buy a DXMG as my second axe, to backup my DKMG.

I say go with either. It's a Jackson, nobody'll **** with ya.

check out the DK-2M also, it's like the DXMG but a lot better.

I guess cost wise it would be cheaper to go with the DX and just switch the bridge pup. Its just not a guitar I'm going to be using a neck pup on anyways so EMG85 or not, it would be wasted.

While the trans black DK does look pretty sweet as well, I don't know, for me a Jackson really should have those cool sharkfin inlays. Its just part of the look, ya know ?

Heres my DXMG Parts jackson. I bought a thrashed body off a dude comeing out of a pawn shop cause they wouldnt buy it. Had two shi##ty Dunccan designeds, But it had a decnet trem and I paid 40.00 bucks for it. Best part is it had a absolutely great Jackson Professional neck o it. I ended up more than paying for the guitar by selling the Duncan designeds, and the trem. I put a JT580 LO-Pro on it, and Seymours favoutite JB/Jazz set, and then bought the DX Body. Everyone loves that DX Transparent Blue MAple top on the DX, espcially children when they see all my guitars always pick up that one and say how nice it is.So, have you thought of Building a jackson? They arevreally very easy to assemble if you do your homework. Lots of parts available to suit your needs-just like fender.

Both are quite similar in quality. The dkmg has emg hz' using the gain boost push pull knob. the dxmg has emg hz' too but no gain boost. the dxmg has sharkfin inlays and the dkmg doesn't.

Your advise is as old as this post. DKMG's had been upgraded to real EMGs (not hz) for years now.

Maybe, u never know, he hasn't gotten back to us, I hate mods like yourself telling people your posting on an old thread, if Google didn't direct us here or if other threads had higher view counts it would be perfect, and we are getting answers here, old info comes in handy on eBay, wouldn't even know about the 20db boost if it wasn't for some one posting on an old thread, so lay off

Sorry brah but adding bad info to an already dead post is a forum faux pas, just as is chiding someone who posted 2 years earlier. I'm pretty sure the OP who hasnt logged in in 4 years doesnt care. Please save your hate and look at post dates and dont post unless it has new relevant information. If you have a question then please make a new post.

Personally i like the forums that auto-lock old posts.
