Jackson DXMG Help

I have a Jackson DXMG with a replaced (brass) tone block, and a Dimarzio Tone Zone.

The guitar feels like it is holding back.

Muffled in a way and not very expressive.

Will changing the pots and switch make a difference do you think.

I had a JB in the bridge and it maybe was a little better but I don't think that is the problem.

Either electronics or the wood. Maybe the bridge....Or is the guitar mostly is what it is?

Thanks,

Re: Jackson DXMG Help

Do you know what the values of the existing pots are? I bought a second PRS SE at one point, and the new one always sounded dead and muffled compared to the other, but acoustically it was very similar. I pulled the pots and found the volume pot read 270k even though it was labeled 500k. Fixed the problem.

Re: Jackson DXMG Help

The pot values now are standard. 500k tone and volume. I can't read the cap without taking the pot out but it looks like .22

Re: Jackson DXMG Help

either replace the tone zone or bypass the tone knob, I think that'd help as the tone zone is a very dark sounding pickup

Re: Jackson DXMG Help

I can try eliminating the tone knob but I have eliminated the pickup as the cause although it is always a contributing factor, it is a minor one in my circumstance.
