Jackson Guitars

I've heard they're awesome for metal and shredding...but I'm a total novice and it's probably the company I'm the least familiar with. Can anyone give me some tips or point me to some review sites? Thanks.

Re: Jackson Guitars

I love them for what they do; shred and metal, like you said. A USA Jackson, to me, is most definitally one of the best guitars that money can buy for the genre. Great necks, superb craftsmanship, stock SD's for awesome tone, and killer looks. And surprisingly, for what you're getting, not too heavy on the wallet if you're in the market for a USA, and especially used.

I like the imports, expecially the MG series and SL-3's and 4's. I'm currently selling my DXMGT, if you're interested ;)

Re: Jackson Guitars

Careful with the cheapo imports (NOT the one Deadskinslayer is selling). They're hella-sh*tty. The models he mentioned, and on up from there, totally kick ass, though.

Re: Jackson Guitars

I love Jacksons!!! I have a SL-4 and its my favorite guitar ever (lots of mojo or something). I have owned an american SL-2H and it was very nice but, I am attached to my SL-4. The quality on the SL-3 and 4's almost rivials the american models and they can be had off of Ebay for about $500-$600 used. Thats a lot of AXE to Dollar ratio!!!

About the review sites, This forum is about as good as you can get in my opinion for honest reviews. If you want to talk to another Jackson freak for any questions concerning Jackson, look up user name "Zerberus" on here!!! That man knows Jackson/Charvel!!!!

Re: Jackson Guitars

D!ck has a US Jackson too that he loves. I think they have phenomenal playability. The construction is great, fit and finish is great, they are just hard to beat. If you buy the Japanese ones (also very nice) buy them used because new they are about the same as the MIA ones. They can cover everything from country to medal. There are some available with hardtails as well.

Re: Jackson Guitars

The first time I ever played a USA Jackson was the first time I felt like I held a guitar that no one could touch in craftsmenship, sound and quality. You can go on and on about how imports sound nice, but if you like those try an USA Jackson, you'll worship it! If you're a shredder you can put every axe you want next to my KE2, but 9/10 axes will be blown away! When I first held the KE2 it was the best neck I'd ever felt, it looked gorgeous and it played the fastest I'd ever played.

Right now you couldn't get mine even if you offered me a PRS McCarthy with a RW neck or something, and for the first time ever while playing guitar, having owned expensive Gibsons and Fenders I feel like I don't really need another axe since my KE2 will just eat it for lunch. And don't mark them "Metal" or "Shredder" guitars, since they can do so much more.

The only problem I have with Jackson is their JCF forum, they don't seem to like foreigners and newbies there (the mods actually encourage you not to deal with foreigners), which really disappoints me and at a certain level even angers me

I think you're referring to a limited amount of Japanese guitars that were produced somewhere in the 90's which neared or even nailed USA Jackson quality. They're still very underrated guitars since people think the (crappier) Japanese guitars that were made after that are pretty much the same guitar. Even Jackson freaks feel those great Japanese axes aren't worth that much money, a real pity!

Re: Jackson Guitars

Hey man, I belong to the JCF and I can honestly say that there are some serious gear snobs their and it angers me that sometimes you post a legitimit ? about an amp or something and you get NO replies.

But the minute a newbie asks a ? that has been asked three million times like" how do I change my strings" then there are a million replies.

I have a few really good friends on the board and I can say tha there is no problem with Foreigners ,as there are tons of guys on there from all over the world.

Anyway I have an SL-2 and it is awesome! With a few pup changes it now can cover just about anything , but a strat sound.

Re: Jackson Guitars

Sorry to turn this into a discussion. I have lots of dutch friends there as well, who've also admitted to what I said earlier. I believe a guy was insulting me on that board and he was also a newbie, instead of acting the guys were just enjoying the show (they were litterally posting that), although some did say his comment about me was uncalled for.

A reckless regular (who I was trying to buy a KE2 from) there was posting some nasty false things about me, and I only found out until an hour after he made thread or so. A mod litterally replied even before knowing what I had to say: "That's why we tell you not to deal with people overseas". Perhaps you can find the topic. Just recently I tried helping a guy with his EMG question and he rudely talked back to me of how it wasn't what he wanted to know. I don't expect you to be happy with it, but for a guy whose trying to help you out posting something back like that is very rude

Re: Jackson Guitars

I appoligize then, they didn't used to be like that there, but I have not been on for awhile cause of the stuff I said Earlier. I guess it has changed.

Anyway, again I appoligize and I most likely won't go back.

Re: Jackson Guitars

Jackson's quality has a reputation for being very good, but I personally haven't laid my hands on a nice USA Jackson guitar yet.

Please don't apologise, you had nothing to do with it and simply didn't know. I'm just glad the're still people like you on the net helping others and I'm proud of this forum and pround of being a member, just because of decent people who mean others no harm :)

(Sorry if I hijacked the thread btw :smack: )

Re: Jackson Guitars

I really wish I could just play around with one for a while. It's sad that my local music shop hardly has any. I think they have one or 2 really cheap (used) ones...

Re: Jackson Guitars

That one would be good, but don't pay 550 for it. They go new for 550.

The SLSMG is excellent, and the previously mentioned Japanese soloists are equal to USA on craftsmanship and construction. Those would be the SL-3's and SL-4's. Charvel Model 5's and 6's are also on par, IMO, and run very cheap on eBay considering what you get guitarwise.

Re: Jackson Guitars

The minute I put my hands on a USA Soloist, I knew that nothing else would do. Simply the finest, most consistent craftsmanship I've ever seen. Great, HUGE sound to them and honestly a pleasure to play. Here I am 6 months later, with the guitar by my side. That's how bad it is!!!

WARNING: DO NOT PLAY UNLESS YOU INTEND TO BUY!! IT CAN BE A PAINFUL WAKEUP CALL THAT THERE IS BETTER OUT THERE!!
