JACKSON Neck Through

Re: JACKSON Neck Through

I've got a Distortion in the bridge of my Charvel 650xl which is pretty much the same as your Soloist save for a rosewood fretboard and a Schaller Floyd as oposed to ebony and a Kahler. It is anything but bright. In fact, it is one of the beefiest, thickest sounding guitars I've got.

Good score you got there.

+1, DD's are fat sounding in my alder ESP, same sort of set up as your Jackson. I have a SH5 in my charvel, thats bass wood though.... its a little clearer sounding than the SH6.... either one would work well in your Jackson.

Good score by the way.

Thanks for the advice everybody.

I am probably leaning towards the DD, or maybe a DiMarzio Breed Neck (is that a sin on this forum). I know I use to have a Strat with an Air Norton in the bridge and it was fairly chunky with the crunch, and very clear when rolled back. Nice PUP. And I had a Super Distortion in my old Aria for years, it was nice as well.

The only thing I do know is that it is Christmas...and I am broke...so all these decisions are are only fantasy right now.

Re: JACKSON Neck Through

Nice. Even with all the chips and stuff everywhere, I'd leave the finish alone. Get everything else working right though, and a fret job. That thing has mojo. Good score.

+1

And it IS a soloist custom, you just made a major score, bro. Merry Christmas :beerchug:

Re: JACKSON Neck Through

Nice guitar Mod13. Great guitar for the money. Looks like a player. Congrats.

Is it the granite finish or a metallic finish?

Re: JACKSON Neck Through

Thanks guys...it was in this pawn shop for month's...I live in a small town, it was beat up and had a price tag of $500, quite a bit for most people around here. It was behind the counter and I glanced at it a few times...but just figured it was a beat up Korean or Indo job. It had three strings on it, and was so filthy I thought the Ebony was rosewood. I decided yesterday just to take a closer look...as soon as the guy picked it up and I glaced the back I went whoa (inside...gotta keep the poker face). Took a closer look, noticed the Ebony and MOP, took down the serial number and flew home to beg permission...I'll be sucking up to the old lady for month's!!!

Went back and asked to plug it in...BZZZZZZ...bad ground, but I don't think the guy new that...I offered him $300 cash...he didn't even blink, adn took it...could't of went cheaper :smack: but hey it is not often you get deals like this. Re-soldered the ground...did a quick clean, and HAD to string it up!!! Been playing it for almost 24hours straight!!! Astounding!!!

:blackeye: Neck pup is dead...probably the switch I think.
 Missing one of the Kahler fine tuners...ordered some yesterday.
 Lots of chips and cracks in the "Green Granite" finish (I think it is pretty ugly...but it is growing on me like the moldy color that it is).
:dunno: And the String Lock is gone off of the head stock.

I am trying to find out more about the guitar. I have never had a Jackson before (I did have an early 90's Charvel though) and never a guitar with a Kahler.

GONNA Play it as is for this set of strings...give it a GOOD cleaning and get that neck pup going before the next (which might be pretty soon). I really love the Humbucker in it...and am anxious to find out what it is (probably a Jackson), but it is soooo rusted...I raised it up slightly and I think the springs are almost gone. So when X-mas is paid off...I think I will start looking for some pups...

DEFINITLY cured my GAS for awhile!!!

Re: JACKSON Neck Through

Great score man!if you really want to buy a new one ,you have to pay allmost 2 k!
Go with a PATB-1 original parallel axis trembucker. It will give that baby more growl and definition!
Let the finish like that ,the scars are war memories ,and makes it's value not lesser!
A fret Job would be expensive ,but it's a great score and it's worth it!

BTW, over at www.kahlerusa.com they can fix you up with the appropriate Kahler locking nut and a new fine tuner ;)

RE: Fretsonthenet: Dave can supply you with new PU rings (should you lose /misplace the original oversize one) and cavity covers, but AFAIK he no longer searches out JT-6 locks since Kahler went back into business (but he may still have a few on hand, of course), and I can´t remember him ever offering Kahler fine tuners ;)

I got two Kahler fine tuners from Dave about one year ago for my '86 Charvel Model 4. He only offered them in stainless (I had to paint them black).

Re: JACKSON Neck Through

AH, kewl, never knew that, and I use his stuff all over the place because most of my Jacksons and Charvels are earlier Ontario models. :beerchug:
