Re: Jackson or Ibanez

I guess I lucked into mine. It had just come in a few weeks before, and I never really noticed it until I came in after work one day with the knowledge that I was getting a pretty big bonus. I always thought I'd want an SL1 w/ Floyd on plain black or Nebula - not an SL2HT with a fixed bridge in BCS. I don't know if I would have picked that exact combination of variable characteristics that make up a USA Soloist, but it was there and it struck me. It was like a Strat and a cherry sunburst Les Paul had dirty, illicit sex in the back room of some roadhouse on a highway that went nowhere in both directions, and this bastard offspring was the outcome. Of course, it didn't hurt that, when I plugged it into a Valvetronix 2x12 combo, it sounded like the voice of God. If God were Dave Mustaine, I mean.

If you're spending that much money, you might want to reconsider ESP. The ESP M, is probably my favorite guitar. And what's great about esp is you can get a custom built guitar at a reasonable price. You can have any body construction, woods, number of frets, pickups from the duncan line etc. I recommend you go test a esp to see if you like the feel of the necks, and then maybe custom order to meet all your guitar shredding needs. I also don't think you should leave jackson RR's out of the question. To me, those are some of the best sounding metal guitars ever.

Re: Jackson or Ibanez

Waaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiit Whaaaaaaaaaat?! I know I sound immature but six ****ing months?:eyecrazy::banghead: I thought that was the wait 4 a custom shop order(one where you fill out a spec sheet that costs $4-6k) was like 6 months. Anyway where can I buy the soloist without a wait that long if anywhere. I don't know if I could trust ebay :28:but if it was the ONLY place that didn't have the wait I'd consider that or just cross my ****ing legs and be patient.

My first major purchase was a USA soloist lighning sky, waited 4months. yes it sucked but it trust me its worth the wait. I got my dream guitar. As far as Prestige vs Jackson USA. Have never played a Ibanez that felt as solid and well build as my Jackson.

Great Jackson Andrew. it is unrelated but Did you solve the pickup ring issue? Looks like you found a thinner one.

Re: Jackson or Ibanez

My first electric was an Ibanez RG, and the wizard neck was TOO thin for my massive hands. I think Jacksons are thin and smooth without being painfully thin like the Ibanez. Plus I like ebony much more than rosewood, but that's more of a personal thing.

I'd say go with whichever plays better and has better tone. To YOU.

Thanks, ya I ended up sanding the pickup ring down flat. The pic shows the guitar with a X2N awesome pickup fav so far. Trying a BL USA L-500XL at the moment. So far good, can really nail that pantera sound.

Re: Jackson or Ibanez

My friend just bought an SL2H over the weekend. Jeez that guitar is bas ass.

That Jackson looks ridiculously nice!!

Re: Jackson or Ibanez

Can't say I've ever tried a USA Jackson, but I am a big fan of Ibanez for the playability. Also, you can get massive variety in RGs if you're willing to go second hand. I recently picked up a 1998 RG3120 which has got Dimarzio pickups and a mahogony body for £415 ($650) and that is truly awesome. Also if you do enough research you can get neck-through models or mahogony bodies with Dimarzios etc. so I think Prestige Ibanez has a lot more variety than USA Jackson, but ultimately it depends what you're after

Re: Jackson or Ibanez

I got mine Ibanez RG2570 in 2003 and was amazed how great it was. 2 years ago I got my Yamaha SA2200 and it sounds 1000 times fatter and better. When I play the Ibanez now I realize that the guitar has the weakest sound of my 3 guitars. My Squire Strat sounds fatter and I got a PATB-3 in the bridge in the Ibanez. It's cool when I use a distortion sound but it lacks still something. Maybe you find it in a Jackson guitar, I didn't play a lot of those but the necks were quite nice.
