Jackson Randy Rhodes 3

heres the low down on the rr3 for those who arnt gear nuts. Its an alder bodied guitar, with a bolt-on maple neck and a compound radius rosewood fretboard, its got the jackson lowprofile tremelo (pretty much a floyd rose Pro trem) I play alot of death metal stuff like Job for a cowboy, between the buried and me, The black Dahlia murder, pretty much anything hard core that doesnt sound like Pantera, ozzy BLS or any band like that. i was looking at a sh 11 or an sh 10 for the bridge maybe and like an sh 2 for the neck, any other ideas? I need a bridge that is high out put that can handle heavy distortion and that will help accentuate mids, and im looking for neck pick up that is smooth and glassy with sweeps. Also im playing on a Randell RH 200 head with a 200 watt randell cab. i use 10 gauge string (sense the srping in the back of my trem is pretty light and 11 make my bridge stick up way to far) im going for a ncie death metal sound, i dont fret about sustain to much, alot of my play involves intricate alternate picking riffs and and tremelo picking, along with sweaping.

actually RR3 does come with Duncan Designs...hmmm...at least thats what i've been seeing for the past couple of years.

for the neck i think jazz would be good, if thats too bright, then the duncan 59

Re: Jackson Randy Rhodes 3

ya idk, i must have bought it right as they changed over, cause all pro series guitar from summer 2006 and on are supose to come with an sh4 and an sh2. the summer catalog that i picked up when i bought it showed all the pro series with real seymours. idk im not sure what to do for a bridge still i want alot of mid i want the low end to still be there but its not the msot important factor to me.

Re: Jackson Randy Rhodes 3

well, u can just et a JB, it has lots of high mids and cuts thru the mix pretty well. but its low end is not as tight as most ppl would like it to be

Re: Jackson Randy Rhodes 3

The LWHMET sounds ****ing brutal through my RG75, I think it slays through Randalls.

Re: Jackson Randy Rhodes 3

Yes I have one of these guitars. It is a 2006 guitar and it came with Duncan pick ups. I'm not sure which ones they are but they don't have enough punch or meat. I was wondering what pickups to put in it myself.
Someone suggested a pair of SH-6 Distirtion pickups.
What do you fellow toneologists think?

If youre RR3 is from 06 you got a JB in the bridge, the distortion is just a JB with a ceramic magnet to give it a little more power but if you want more bass maybe something else other than the distortion would be better.
I think that the jb and distortion got to much treble for this kind of guitars. But you can use 250k pots to smooth the high out.

Re: Jackson Randy Rhodes 3

mids, low end?? INVADER!!! nah just kidding...but it might work...jb maybe would do?? i think its a good pup but i dont like it. damn...jazz would make a nice neck...how do you want the output on the neck?? i like jazz bridge better on the neck...dimebucker handles dist just fine, but mids...they're fine by me, and i hate scooped mids, i use plenty, but i dunno if it will be enough for you...

Re: Jackson Randy Rhodes 3

Adzer, What pickups would you recommend? The guitar doesn't sound bad it just needs something that has more power if you will. It doesn't seem like it has enough punch to it.

Re: Jackson Randy Rhodes 3

well, if u really think the DD doesnt have wat it takes, the Invader actually is a punchier pup. too punchy for me actually. probably lacks the clarity of the JB or DD but definitely more bass response from it. Mephis just got it actually, maybe he can tell u more about it as i've only tried it once for about 10-15min.

Re: Jackson Randy Rhodes 3

what do you wanna know about the invader bro?? ask away my friend

rockinangus: Something less bright, like the invader, or maybe a custom if you want a litte more open sound. But the JB an DD are to bright imo for a guitar like that.
I use DD i my hamer thats got a mahogny body and still I have to use a 250k pot ot I will get icepick highs.

Re: Jackson Randy Rhodes 3

you know you can quote ppl...so you can save up your finger energy for what they really count...PLAYIN GUITAR!!!! bottom right corner on the post you wanna quote....

Re: Jackson Randy Rhodes 3

when you said you wanted punch, yet tight, and good bottom end, i immediately thought custom...i would say custom or full shred. full shred is a little touch warmer, and is tight as hell...

Re: Jackson Randy Rhodes 3

hows the mids on the full shred? idk i want a tight bottum end but alot of what iwant from my RR3 is mids.

Re: Jackson Randy Rhodes 3

the funniest thing about all this is, if i had goten the right pick-ups in my guitar (sense i bought my rr3 in july of 2006) i would have had an sh2 in the neck and an sh4 in the bridge which is what most people have been sugjesting.

Re: Jackson Randy Rhodes 3

u want lots of mids and smooth highs? Custom Custom then...but the low end will be quite loose IMO. If not then the JB would do, but the highs might be too much, if so then just get 250K pots as well. that would solve it.
