Jackson RR3 opinions?

Re: Jackson RR3 opinions?

LOL, you mad bros?

First, I don't know where you can get an RR5 for the same price as an RR3.

Second, yeah, a neck thru is not gonna sound like a bolt on, I prefer bolt ons, sue me, I'm sure there's other people who do too. I've paid thousands of dollars for bolt on ESP's (and others), they surely don't sound like a USA neckthru Jackson either, that doesn't make them ****ty guitars.

Third, I'm not saying they're high end USA Jackson killers, just that thay aren't "****" as h8 keeps saying. Yeah, so maybe you need to put a little effort into making them great players, but for the initial investment I'll say it's easily worth it. It's not really any more work than any other used guitar usually needs anyway.

My Kelly has the LP580 trem, and it's meh, but it has the quartersawn neck and binding and sharkies and everything else that the neckthrus have, and it was $275, with the (****ing huge) original case. So suck it.

Re: Jackson RR3 opinions?

I don't think you can call a $300 guitar good simply because it only cost you $300.

If you land an actual good guitar for that, fantastic. But $300 does not a good guitar make simply on the virtue of its price tag especially if you're going to dump at least the purchase price back into it to upgrade the pickups and hardware.

Re: Jackson RR3 opinions?

Well, if you dump $300 into a $300 dollar guitar, and you would have dumped $300 into a $900 (or more) guitar, but you end up in the same place, I think it's a good deal.

I do my own setups and I change the pickups in everything anyway, multiple times usually, it's an expected expense no matter how much the guitar is. EMG's and JB/Jazz sets don't exactly rock my boat.

Why would I dump that $300 into a $900 guitar again? To upgrade tuners that would already be premium or perhaps to change out the OFR for another OFR? Yeah that makes sense.

Re: Jackson RR3 opinions?

Make an argument that makes sense and I'll stop responding. So far your only qualification for that guitar being good is it cost $300 and you can always upgrade it. And because I would only dump that money into a higher end guitar anyway...

Dude asked opinions and I gave mine. You responded as if I'd never played anything but USA made guitars and had no knowledge with which to speak on such matters. So I'm trying ot hammer out my stance so you can understand my point of view.

Re: Jackson RR3 opinions?

Sheesh. You thought your MIJ bolt on Jacksons were crap, fine.

There's no point to this, really, I was just busting your balls, same with Varg, we're all friends here, right? It's just two different ways of accomplishing the same thing.

If dude wants the traditional RR and JB's and neckthru's suit him, he should save his money.

If it's a player and he's cool with something that sounds different than a neckthru RR and wants to put in pickups to suit him and can deal with the LP trem (even on a temporary basis) and can deal with people acting like his guitar isn't a real Jackson, then it's a good deal for around $300. Cool?

Re: Jackson RR3 opinions?

There are guitars that are "great" and there are guitars that are "great for the money".

The MIJ Jacksons aren't likely to be great but they can be good and often great for the money.

I sold my RR3 (no case, not even a gig bag) for £250 a while ago, then last year bought my RR5 WITH HARD CASE for £300. So, I would say that's basically the same price.

I dont think MIJ Jacksons are crap, I said ALL my Jacksons are, and HAVE BEEN MIJ. My SL3 is the best guitar I have ever played, it's PERFECT. However, I personally dont like the FEEL of a bolt on Rhoads - why limit the upper fret access on a guitar with a shape that's completely open like that?
As for putting work into them, I put a hell of a lot of work into that RR3, I even had the guy on the Jackson forum, Dave, make me red pearloid parts for it - I was the first person he ever did that for and he started offering it in different colours after I had him do them for me. I also put in various pickups, and stuff in an attempt to get the most out of it. I did pretty much the same for the KE3 I had.
Neither ever felt right, a bolt on in those shapes just isn't right IMO. The DK2 and DK2M with bolt on necks feel great, but Kelly and Rhoads, for me, no, sorry! If I want a Rhoads, and I cant afford USA, it has to be RR5 or RR24.
