I have yet to play an ESP that wasn't a Kirk Hammett model. There are virtually no dealers that carry it around these parts. The LTD's I've played have been good, better in comparison to the Korean-made Jacksons.

However, the USA Jacksons that I've played have all been superb. There was one Soloist in particular that was really sweet. If they dropped the trem on it, I'd be $1500 in the hole for one.

I voted Jackson.

Ever heard of SL2HT or SL1T? They're tun-o-matic versions of SL1 and SL2H. They're identical, just without the floyd.

Dave switched to ESP because when Jackson was for sale, he tried to buy it, and it was allegedly sold to Fender behind his back. He chose ESP because Gibson would not make him a 24 fret V.

Besides, what does the fact that he's a prick have to do with Jackson or ESP?

LOL ok sorry... I didn't know the whole story.... but anyway, while Dave's being a ****head has nothing to do with either company.. I was just making a point to Ironjose that his switching from Jackson to ESP is irrelevant because of what an idiot he is.

...endorsements don´t make a quality guitar...
Eh, you're just saying that coz Phil Collen from Def Leppard is one of Jackson's biggest endorsers :D

J/K, I just wanted to reiterate your point about endorsements not meaning sh*t.

And btw, you CAN very much compare a KH-2 (bolt on) to a DK-1, or a KH-2 Vintage to an SL2-H w/EMGs, or an M-II to an SL-1, or a King V to a DV-8, or a Rhoads to a Laiho.. (ok, that´s stretching a bit ;))....Or you can rig a custom shop quote for identical guitars off both websites and see which comes out on top.

I'm assuming by on top you mean price in terms of features?

I've done this experiment before and I can tell you Jackson's quote comes out being about $500-1000 more expensive than ESP. But that doesn't mean the Jackson doesn't kick more ass or vice versa.

Moosetaine wanted them to produce the Turd on a Stick he cakks Axxion, they said no.
That's actually pretty shocking, considering they have produced the Warrior for a number of years. :)

lol SCORE, someone who hates that shape like I do!

I'm more of a Rhoads kind of guy.

Re: Jackson vs. ESP

Yo,
I voted Jackson, but it's a close call.

The SL2H is probably the nicest guitar I ever played. I bought on for $1300 on ebay. (That's not an unheard of price, either.)

But that's a USA Jackson. The overseas models are not as good as the Korean or Japanese ESPs. I played a DKMGT in the store the other day, nice guitar, but the EMG turbocharger (or whatever it's called) was a piece of absolute crap. For the same money you could get an Eclipse 400, with JB and '59 that is a barrel of fu<kin laughs. The Vipers are cool too, and it only sets you back $600.

I don't want Jackson Charvel to abandon their traditions, but some innovative thinking and new models would be really nice. The new SLSMG is a good start (Put Duncans on it!). I'd like to see more non-tremolo Jacksons, and how about a model where the volume knob isn't right at the bridge pickup?

My problem with ESPs are the finishes. I've never been into quilt tops or abalone, so that deals me out on half their line. However their build-quality, playability and sound is impressive.

Hmm, I dunno what to say,...lol :laugh2: Jackson actually did quite a few "experiments" in that direction.

The AT-1 (96-97 / 2k-2k2), SLS (96-97), SLATQH + SLATQM (2k-2k4), Dinky Archtop (90-92), Soloist Archtop Professional (90-92?), Swee-Tone Series (2k1-2k4), JJP (96-97), Surfcaster (87-still in production, although with a myriad of different specs over the years) and a few others were all generally recieved as "It´s not a pointy Metalhead Guitar, and it´s not a Gibson /PRS. I don´t want it!" by the public, and were therefore almost all relatively short lived.

Then usually can be had for a pittance on eBay, and some of them (esp. the AT-1) are IMO some of the best guitars Jackson ever made ;)

Zerb

Do you know if you can order the JJ1 with the old Tribal graphic (you should remember, black w/ white tribal pinstripes) without CS prices?

Nope. Either CS, Used or a Dealer Limited run of 10 that guitar (often speced out in collaboration with the members of the JCF ;))

Re: Jackson vs. ESP

Damned ... GAS.

There's apparently one on eBay but without any photo's ... let's just say I'm not bidding

Re: Jackson vs. ESP

how about the stock pups that comes with the guitars, i`ve heard that the Jackson`s are way better or am i wrong ?

Re: Jackson vs. ESP

THis only applies to imports, as Jackson USA and ESP Japan both for the most part stay true to Duncans and EMGs. In the cheap lines they both use cheap pickups (EMG-HZ / Duncan Designed)

When you reach about the 1000$ price point both have Duncans or EMGs for the most part. IMO the 2 companies really are comparable in every way. Just with one being more innovative ;)

Re: Jackson vs. ESP

which is ??? ESP or Jackson...
but i guess that the EMG-HZ are the 81 but in pasive ??? or is it the EMG-H4 is there a difference ???

You're confusing ESP for LTD ...

ESP/LTD start using EMGs and Duncans around the $500 point. My LTD Viper-400 cost me $550 and came stock with a set of duncans.

EMG-HZ is EMG's line of passive pickups, and there are 4 models IIRC.. H1 to H4. IMO, if Alexi Laiho uses the EMG-H4, it must be at least decent!

Re: Jackson vs. ESP

Jackson completly dont get me wrong i do enjoy esp but the rhoads and soloist kill everything esp has
