Jackson vs. Ibanez

I'm contemplating getting a new guitar and I think I have it narrowed down to two general choices: a Jackson DKMG or an Ibanez RG 1570 prestige. Their both very similar, Japanese made, Floyd Rose, bolt neck, 24 frets etc. The Ibanez is about $100 more, but there is no mistaking the Prestige necks. I would use it for hard rock (Kiss) to some metal (Motley Crue). What do the experts say? I've never played either, and I know that a lot of forum members have a lot of experience with these guitars, especially Jacksons. One quick side bar, a pickup change would come, but not right away. Probably a few months until I got a little more $$. So, I would be using the stock pickups for a while, and that does have a little to do with the decision. However, when I do change them, I would most likely go with a pair of Dimarzio PAF Pro's.

I'd bet I'm in the minority, but Japanese made Ibanezes are awesome. I've never been super into Jackson, but both guitars are a great choice. I'd pick the Ibanez personally. I love the neck, particularly those presitige necks. Best in the biz IMO.

I know what you saying about the necks. I have an SA 1260 prestige which the neck is awesom.

i like the ibanez for the neck but overall tonal qualities i think the jackson is much better, if your just going to drop in emg's go for the ibanez though

Ibanez- everytime I pickup an S series I want to buy it.

I like Jackson but have never found one I've wanted to buy.

i'm more into the jacksons, but it's more from a standpoint of being into name brands..i know i know, the name on the headstock doesn't make it play any better, but that just the way i am.

Jap ibanez's are great with a pickup change, but the Jackson is also a great choice. Two very good guitars, you've got to go and play them both and see, because either would be a awesome guitar with a pickup change.

Both companies are a major turnoff to me. I feel that they lose so much tonally by slicing their neck and body shapes so thin. They are said be a shredder's axe, but you'd be surprised how much faster you can play with a thicker neck, and how much better it sounds resonating through a thicker, better quality body.

I just played a Schecter Blackjack yesterday at Guitar Center. You can't beat it's comfortable neck and well shaped Mahogany body, not to mention stock Duncan Pickups (JB/59) for $579. It doesn't have the Floyd, but it will knock the pants off the Jacksons and Ibanez's you're looking at.

I think the point of this thread was to decide between 2 similar guitars. I prefer thin bolt-on necks. I want a floyd. And I like them for the fact that their made in Japan. The Schecter is a very nice guitar, however, it is not at all what I want.

Understood.

In that case, I'd vote Jackson. On a personal note, I just prefer the feel of the DKMG to the RG in general. But that's just me.

In this case I would go with the Ibanez. They're both bolt on. I don't really like the Dinky models. But... I don't really like the middle pickup on the Ibanez. I'd go for the 1520GBP

The Trem on the Ibanez is better, but the workmanship and materials of the Jackson should be better, in course with the J/C Import philosophy of "Hardware can be upgraded, Wood can´t".

Pickups suck on both IMO, so it essentially comes down to whick speaks to you more...I´d just go into a shop and play both

Let me tell you, you haven't played a real Jackson until you've played a USA Jackson that being said I'm sure at least 75% of you will agree when you play them. I liked Ibanez necks but I always found them lacking in some part and when playing a Jackson neck it had everything I personally wanted in a neck. Some of you might disagree but I'm pretty much counting you to the 25%, based on the :saeek: s I've seen from people who touched USA Jackson guitars

That's a problem on this forum. People comparing Ibanezes and Jacksons aren't comparing Japanese Ibanezes with USA Jacksons. If you want to compare USA Jacksons to Ibanezes, then compare them with the J-Customs.


That said, if it weren't for the trem, I would go for the Jackson.

I like carved tops better, and the DKMG is a carved top...and I don't like middle pickups without switches, so the DKMG gets my vote.

Nope, Chin Su Gakki, and Grover went over in the early 80s himself to make sure they understood exactly what he wanted... Again, the philosophy is "Hardware can be upgraded, Wood can´t"... that´s why a 1k$ import jackson like an SL-3 still has a POS JT-580LP and Duncan designeds on it, because if it didn´t and had an OFR and Duncans it would be essentially identical to an SL-1 save for the rosewood board and cosmetics...
