Has anyone replaced humbuckers on a H/H Jaguar with coil splitting? What did you replace the standard set with & what was the result? :)

Re: Jaguar Humbuckers

Welcome to the forum.

Probably the best forum member to ask about modifying a Fender Blacktop HH Jaguar is Astrozombie. He has tried an assortment of Duncan and DiMarzio retrofit pickups. Unfortunately, I do not recall him being massively interested in coil split tones.

Modified wiring would offer greater sonic variation but, in my opinion, it will not capture the true single coil Jaguar sound.

I can confirm, I had for a while a SD Custom and a DMZ Super Distortion at the bridge with split coil option, I finally got back to the standard original single coil (I had to pot them in paraffin because they feedbak a lot), they had not that 'clong!' sound you expect from a jaguar, most of all it lacked the 'percussiveness' of separate single magnet poles

Re: Jaguar Humbuckers

Tell you what might work, the Stag Mag.

By definition, the single coil sounds will be authentic precisely because they are single coils. The downside of this suggestion is that, without the screening "claw", the single coil sounds would be more Mustang than Jaguar.

Another possibility would be P-Rails. They would need to be installed the wrong way about to get the Rail coils where the Jag coils would normally be. Doing that would mess up the P90 sounds.

By the way, I hadn't expected such a big difference involving the claw until I removed it (I discovered it was the main reason of the bad feedback), it didn't sound like a jaguar anymore, I had to put it back and waxed the pickup with the cover and the claw on, that cured the problem.

Re: Jaguar Humbuckers

Thanks for the input! I have noticed another thread which is refering to the same thing, very helpful guys!
