Jamming Rig Suggestions?

Hey Guys, so I am selling my Axefx Ultra (Have the II) and thought it would be cool to get a small head/cab to jam on. Started on a Line 6 Spider head before getting the Ultra so I've never had a traditional amp before. Bulb has a little Blackstar HT-5 and Egnater rebel 1x12 setup to jam on, and I thought something like that would be pretty cool. Getting that pair new would be pretty reasonable, but I might would rather look for a used one as I'm not looking to sink very much money into this setup, but am open to suggestions for stuff in the similar vein or price point. If anyone has experience with one or the other, advice would be appreciated!

if u are using or planning to put Axe-FX straight to FOH setup live, might as well get a wedge monitor and a small mixer, which will give u good heads up on the sounds u can create as well as ur jamming requirements.

At the LA Amp Show a few years ago, the AxeFX was being demoed using two powered Atomic cabs. This is what the company deems the best. This way, you get the most out of your AxeFX, even though it's not the cheapest option. Search used.

The other option is to buy two 1-12 cabs or one stereo 212, and a stereo power amp.

Don't move away from using the AxeFX in favor of a cheap amp. Create a power/cab system for it.

+1 on staying with the AxeFx. It's all a matter of just getting it amped up is all. I'm getting a pair of of Behringer CE500a speakers shipped to me right now for low-volume jamming, a portable PA for the wife or just something to stick an mp3 player onto. They're like little baby active PA speakers that do 40w/90w per and have 5.5in drivers and a piezo horn.

Everyone's making a 10, 12 or 15in 2 way active speaker now. Alto is a cheapo who's got a good rep. Behringer's got a bad rep, but meh for $500 you can have a pretty serviceable set of speakers that go from low volume to 250w program each. If you're spending, look into the Class D jobs from QSC, Mackie, Yamaha, etc. They're smaller than a size 13 high-top shoe box and will pack 1000w program each.

I can dig what you're trying to do. I burned out on the complexity of trying to use most digital gear in a jam setting. There's something to be said for having just a few gain, tone, and volume controls to think about.

Those Egnater rebel cabs are pretty tight. I use a pair of them.

There are tons of lunch box amps out there that you could consider. Egnater Rebel is awesome, but the Tweaker looks even better in some ways. The H&K TubeMeister is also a great amp. I'm just getting to know a Mesa TransAtlantic 15 that I got recently for a song. I have no experience with Orange, but they deserve mention on this list.

Amp shopping is fun.

Re: Jamming Rig Suggestions?

5 watts i reckon is not enough for jammming with a band. Go for 20 watts(ish) or more so you can get clean sounds as well as plenty of dirty options with pedals.
If you dont want to blow a heap of cash, its pretty hard to go past the fender hot rod deluxe (40 watts), or the blues junior if the hot rod is too much grunt for your purposes. The egnater rebel head is way cool too at 20 watts but more expensive than the fenders.

Re: Jamming Rig Suggestions?

Thanks a lot for the suggestions guys! Though not a very good one, I do have a power amp and 4x12 for my Axe in a live situation. I was just thinking about something to set up in another room, away from the computer and recording rig and for a friend to play through when they are over. I haven't done a whole lot of cab research yet, so I didn't know the smartest way to spend my money in that area.

Re: Jamming Rig Suggestions?

I got a Blackstar id60 as a grab and go combo to compliment my AxeFx rig. It has knobs, a much more traditional look, but the broad tonal palette that I've come to enjoy with the AxeFx.
