Japan model Epi pickup questions

I have a Japan only model Epi Les Paul. From what I can find online the pickups are USA made Gibson Classics, does anyone here know if that means 57 Classics? Thanks.

Re: Japan model Epi pickup questions

Btw, this is an older early 90's guitar, with Gibson headstock. If that helps any...

One of the easier ways to find out is to unscrew the pickup rings from the body so you can see if there's any stickers on the bottoms of the pickups' baseplates.

If you do that, could you post up some pics, please?

Re: Japan model Epi pickup questions

There are stickers, I pulled the neck pickup and it just had one white sticker with Classic on it. Sorry can't post pics, working with mobile only right now.

Just pulled the neck pickup back out. They are the ones in your top pic. The stickers are just worn and faded. That's so much for your help. I am considering trading the pickups and didn't want to not be positive about them. Thanks again!

I have the same one, but honeyburst. Yo my taste, the pickups are very dark, I'll have a look if mine are 57's too.

My 2000 Fuji-gen Epiphone Custom.. The only guitar I've ever owned that a 490T sounds great in. FullSizeRender (39).jpgFullSizeRender (40).jpg

Re: Japan model Epi pickup questions

I've never heard of those being Gibson U.S.A. pickups as stock. The pickups in my old Epi Japan SG (made by Fujigen) were definitely standard low-to-mid-grade Japanese pickups (and they sounded pretty bad). However, that one was made 8–10 years after yours. The electronics were the only weaknesses of those guitars. They were made better than U.S.A. Gibsons IMNSHO.
