Japanese Squiers, normally heavy??

To you guys that own the Japanese squiers, do you find your guitar heavy? Ive always loved my Japanese Squier strat. The stock pups were rubbish, but everything else is top notch. Fender Japan branded keys, fender bridge made by Kahler, etc. Im not a big single coil guy, so it doesnt see alot of use. Since Im weeding out the herd, I got her out. This guitar sounds huge accoustically and note ring like an LP. It weighs a ton too.. I need to scale it, but Its heavier than my LP standard and is close to my Trad pro. Im guessing close to 9 lbs. Beastly!

Looks like a lot of that weight is in the bridge, the tuners and the locking afternut thing.

Have you tried living in a place with less gravity?

LOL!!! Going to the moon for Christmas.. Ill take her with me... yeah, I was thinking the bridge is probably heavy.. The bar is even pretty stout

Re: Japanese Squiers, normally heavy??

I have an '85 MIJ Fender '50's style Strat, which is very similar. It was my first guitar, actually. I believe it's basswood (and about six pieces of it side to side and pancaked). Yes, it's on the heavy side. It's a fine guitar. It's nicer than any MIM I've played, and it's made better than most '70's Fenders I've played. I believe it may have been made by Fuji-Gen, who can make some truly awesome guitars. My JDM Epi SG was also made by them, and it easily smokes new Gibsons IMO.

Yeah, the hardware will do it. What pups do you have in there now?

I'm liking the look of many of those MIJ variously branded Strats 1975-85. Some have become remarkably pricey!

I once bought one of those MIJ System One series Stratocasters. Mine had a Squier decal on the headstock. A guy living five miles away had an identical guitar with a Fender decal. Somewhere in the production run, Fender Japan redesignated them. Mine was a toneless wonder so I kept the neck and flipped everything else on eBay. With a licensed ash body and vintage style hardware, the guitar came good.

I've got a Mexican Squier Telecaster that's about as heavy as my Les Pauls.
