sooooo i couldnt get the wood seams to fill in without having waaay too much clear on the guitar, so i took it back down to bare wood so i can start over and actually use wood sealer. doing the same bluegreen i originally did.

ROUND TWO. DING DING DING

i laid the black base again.... i went darker this time to make the blue POP more than last time.

using a sponge for the clear coat this time instead of struggling with rattle cans.

I'm doing the back/sides first, so the top stain doesn't bleed over the sides again.

... my two cents (and worth as much), but I think the straight black pickguard makes it too dark. Maybe a 3 ply? A pearloid would be too busy...

Feel free to ignore me. :D

i actually ordered a gloss black 3 ply to replace this one, because i thought the exact same thing.

although i love white pearl, i only like them with maple boards. i'm keeping a black guard to go with the ebony board.

i'm also thinking about moving the switch to the bottom. he's still deciding on knobs too. if it were mine, i'd go with chrome top black LP knobs like i have on my brown horizon.

i'm also considering white knobs and a white humbucker.

Chrome knobs, chrome hardware, chrome hb cover. Just enough bling to catch the eye, and draw it into that magnificent top. :naughty:

gorgeous man.

looks like a fresh pair of jeans (in a really good way)

man that is looking cool. Im starting a similar build myself. I havent decided fully upon a color but here is a teaser of mine. No where near as nice as that flame top on yours. so you sponged the clear on? that sounds interesting. i hate rattle cans myself because they often tend to spit and splatter everywhere.with pickguard.jpg

Re: jateleguar project V2.0

here's another mock up. the clear is almost cured enough to start sanding, but not quite.

i still need to order the new pickguard and paint the top of the headstock black.
