Jazz bass A strng problem.

Guys, u served my father in the seymour duncan forum, I am inlcuding vital information to the survival of my bass in this post.

Please help me you are my only hope!

So my jazz bass ha s problem , the A strings sounds completely different from the others:

it is clerly noticeable:

-a drop in volume
- a drop in tone quality;
- a change in EQ of the string: looks like the A string has a mid boosted EQ in front , bass and treble greatly reduced.

the sensation is also that there is a kind of "odd" vibration that accompanies the A string. Is like a metallic vibrating sound. Other strings on the other hand, sound fantastic, open, resonant and full.

Before your answer, let me tell you the check i tried: truss rod for buzzing, fret level, bridge mounting + bridge parts mounting, eLectronics mounting and ground soldering.
I unmounted the tuning keys, the nut, re-polished the frets, changed strings, tightened strap locks.
I tried to dampen every exposed part of the string, behind the nut and at the bridge, I checked the nut slot,

Nothing.

I am about to burn my bass

please help!

Re: Jazz bass A strng problem.

Pickup height, have you checked that? I had a bass that did the same thing.

Hmm, I know there is an Antiquity P Bass pickup with a raised A pole, but there isn't a Jazz like that. It actually does sound like a string to me...have a spare string to test? Can you tap on the poles with something metal (lightly) and confirm the output across strings is the same?

Re: Jazz bass A strng problem.

Jazz Basses normally have a weak A string. It's my pet peeve about them. It is more prominent the lower you have the pickup set.

What is your pickup height?

I would post a video of the problem.

Re: Jazz bass A strng problem.

I had a similar problem last year and as stupid as it seems the problem was the cable.

Re: Jazz bass A strng problem.

If the poles have the same volume...have you tested the volume of the strings with the bass not plugged in? Maybe it is a vibration issue.
