Jazz bass pickup that is side-by-side coils like a Hot Rails for Strat?

What kind of options are there for a Jazz bass pickup along there lines (pretty much what a HR for Strat is):

• ceramic bar at the bottom
• passively magnetic blades as polepieces
• bit of a hot wind, possibly enough to make it worthwhile to have a parallel/series switch

Yes, EMGs, but what about passive?

I need something for PJ setups.

Bill & Becky Lawrence do to make railed bass pickups at this time (I mean the company, I know that Bill passed away). Rod magnets only. I didn't like the P-46 nearly as much as the hype on basstalk indicated so I didn't try their Jazz (with rod magnets).

Barden I have never been happy about price-wise.

Maybe I should look at the bartolinis. It isn't clear to me what kind of setup they use, but I liked their P pickup well enough.

The 9JL/S employs two short coils, each sensing a pair of adjacent strings. Last time that I checked the Bart website, this model was still offered in two variants - one with "enhanced midrange and lows" (they're not kidding!) and another, brighter version. Both are high output by passive standards. Neither really sounds as "wiry" as a traditional Fender pickup. Get the brighter version if you want versatility.

Do you mean passive in the strict electronic sense or in terms of the vibe?

The SD/Basslines AJJ-2 Lightnin' Rods pickups are 9v powered but have the dynamic responses of a good Sixties Fender bass. I currently have a set of these in an Overwater-by-Tanglewwod Aspiration Standard bass, wired though 25k VVT controls. The instrument behaves so much like a Fender that it is disconcerting to put the thing back on its stand and see that it is "the wrong shape".

I chose to hardwire the AJJ-2 pickups to an EMG Buss board and, thence, via Solderless control pots. The idea is that I retain the option to change the control layout to MV, Bal., Tone. This should dispel my misgivings about the appearance of the host instrument.

it might take a while to track one down, but OBL made a dual blade j bass pickup in the late 80's. I have a couple of guitars with their guitar pickups and they sound great. I'm not talking about the oBL's that were in Epiphone import guitars, but the ones Gibson and Hamer used as OEM pickups for a while in the late 1980's.
I don't know what kind of magnets they had, but they had the dual blade poles and respectable output.

They looked cool too, if that's a consideration.
