Jazz/Custom in my 2008 SG

I have had an SH-2 before, and it is one of my favorite neck pickups. First time though with a SH-5. I am not much of a ceramic fan, but in this pickup it works. I have a JB in my Eastman T386 paired with a Jazz, and I am thinking I might try a Custom in that guitar too. I put on some aftermarket raw covers just for esthetics reasons. Really am liking this set up a lot.

+1

I put a Custom in my Les Paul in the spring of 2002 while rocking a JB/'59 set in my Explorer. I ended up liking the Custom much more than the JB, and switched to a Custom/Jazz set in the Explorer in late 2002 or early 2003.

Compared to the Explorer, the Custom was a bit bass-heavy in the LP, so I swapped it for a '59 in 2008 or so. I'm wanting a bit more output, so trying a '59/Custom Hybrid next.

I bet that does sound killer in the SG. It's been more than a decade since I've tried a Jazz, so I may need to do that again. Way back when I found it slightly sterile and bright, but I like bright more these days. I think I'll put a spare A5 in one of my APH's and see what I think.

I may go in a different direction with my T386, and try a set of APH's, but the Jazz/Custom are perfect in my SG.

I built a straight up rhythm guitar with Warmoth parts. I just sorta dreamed up the combination of a Jazz neck and a Custom Custom bridge. It is a Mooncaster body with a roasted maple neck. Not because I dreamed it up, but this guitar sounds elite. Nothing to gain from my post. Not sure why I chose this setup, but in that semi hollow body, this thing is the most versatile electric guitar I have ever seen. At some point I will put this outfit in my LP just to hear what happens. IMHO, the Jazz neck is maybe the best PUP for that position available.

Have a SG with a Jazz neck and a 59/Custom bridge.
Yes, the Jazz is bright but more importantly, it is a smooth sounding pickup and pairs well with the bridge pickup.
