jazz humbuckers

Re: jazz humbuckers

The SD Jazz pickup is an awsome pickup with a very wrong name. My hatred of the jazz pup's made me come to this board for help many years ago - it just wouldnt do traditional jazz and I couldnt make 'em work.

May I also suggest looking at pickups w/ Alnico II pickups as posted above.

With due respect, this guitartist would like suggest the the current version of a pickup that Gibson has been using in some of their jazz boxes [like the ES-175] for over 40 years, the 57 Classic.

Bare Knuckle make the Manhattan, a humbucker-sized P90 with A3 magnets. It's not currently listed on their website, but people are always bringing it up on the forum as being a great jazz pickup.

Re: jazz humbuckers

Has anyone tried the Lollar humbucker sized CC? It is an interesting option that I've been considering as well...

I would agree with that, if it weren't so great at what I consider a modern jazz sound. It's a very even-handed, clear, hi-fi sound, and it's great at exposing deficiencies in your playing. If you play well and aren't expecting vintage jazz-box tone, it's a beautiful pickup that does well with a light touch and a clean or nearly-clean amp.

Does the A2P have a more defined bass than the Seth? I can't seem to get the thickness out of the Seth that people say it should. I don't dig that microphonic overtone either.
