The verdict is in. With just a little noodling on my Vox I would say Al2 is better than the Al5 it comes with. It has more of a woman tone. Not muddy at all. You can definately hear a shift in the EQ.
This doesn't mean it's the end all for everyone..I like it better than stock.

im a fan of alnico II magnets in general. i like the fat mids and soft bottom and top. its a sweeter sound than the other magnets. it doesnt mean they dont have their place but 4 out of 5 times i like a2 better than anything else

Did it lose any output? As it is, the JazzN is pretty wimpy; I'd hate to take it down a notch.

Unless I'm mistaken the A2 Jazz is the Alnico Pro II. Same wind, or not?
Don't quote me, but I think it's the case.

Another way to have a slightly more ballsy Jazz neck is to use the Jazz Bridge model instead. In one LP, I have the Custom/JazzB and it's a pretty meaty sounding guitar.

would looove a definitive answer on this.
i had read several times that they're similar but not the same, usually ppl preferring the A5P to the jazz; then a forum bro who's word i take as gospel said it is.

I'd like to know the verdict on this as well...i would really like to try that out if it's the same.

I think it actually went from about 7.45K to 7.60K after. It's definately EQ'ed differently. With a little grit it has a definate Santana vibe.

Sorry, resistance is not affected by the magnet in any way. You could install an A800 and it would be the same, likewise with no magnet whatsoever the resistance will be the same.

A common variable is temperature though.

I would also be curious for conformation on the A2proN being the same wind as the JazzN.

Then certainly could be my error or the fact that yesterday was 94 degrees.

I know that you don't like the JazzN, but calling it "wimpy" is a bit of a stretch, if you ask me.

I've got an A4/A8 Jazz set in my 1980 Vantage Les Paul Custom copy and the neck p'up's anything BUT "wimpy", and even with an A8 in the bridge it doesn't get "overpowered" at all. And this guitar gets used all the time, as I get the best soaring lead "Santana" tone of my arsenal.

I don't know, it seems too dialed down to me. I like PAF's in the neck much better. Why get a JazzN when you can have a '59N, PGN, A2P, or Seth instead? I just don't see the Jazz as being a first pick when these other great PU's are available.

Well, I got a second hand JazzN to match the JazzB that was coming out of the neck position of my # 1. I didn't quite like'em as first (the stock JazzB was a bit too shrill and not vocal enough for that position) but after modding'em with the A4/A8 formula of mine, they started to sound great as a set... the JazzN ground sound of the wind suited very well the A4 for my purposes, uncovering the mids that lacked to soar lead and the A8 added that masculine, lyrical singing vibe taking all the shrillness away.

Now that I think of it, if you've got a JazzN, try the unoriented A5 in it... from what I remember it might be the ingredient that would give the character you feel it's lacking.
