Re: Jazz pickup for jazz
Wouldn't SETH LOVERS go well for Jazz?
The Jazz model is mroe articulate, sweet, and balanced, with nice bass response. It's almost like a funkier, twangier, and richer '59 model. The 59 model is more old school, stripped down (kinda dry), with some vintage sparkle to it.
The APH1 is very spony and sweet, articulate, but fat. It has that spongy Alnico 2 magnet kinda feel and sparkle and tons of harmonics. It's not as sparkly as an Alnico 5 magnet, so it is a TASTE thing. Slash and the Appetite tone, esp Sweet Child O Mine is the best advert for this pickup - that famous intro. Does this relate to clean tones and jazz? No, but it shows you how sweet and clear, yet gainy the pickup can be, and that tell you something.
I use APH1s in 2 guitars.
For a fat and interesting modern sound that does jazz, fusion, and rock, and is really fat I would consider the Dimarzio Air Norton/Air Zone combo - but that's a sweet smooth, high powered set.
