Jazz-rock in Gm

It's the first tune on our page. Your feedback is appreciated.

All guitar tracks were recorded with an Ibanez AWD82 semi-hollow body axe with the Crazy 8 in the bridge.

Rhythm tracks were recorded with Franklin and the Verbzilla (63 springs w/ trails). He wasn't available for the leads, so I had to make do with a tweed Bassman.

very nice stephen
thanks for sharing it
tasty little lickage before the 2nd and 3rd verses and on the outro
the quarter note triplet resolve of the post-chorus phrase is very prog-ish - put me in mind of classic kansas / yes / etc ... tres cool!

cheers

Thanks, Bill. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

The three leads were chosen from several improvised takes. I had a broad plan for how they would progress, but no real plan for the actual playing.

Re: Jazz-rock in Gm

I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. Fine playing on your part. You seem to get that extra "something" out of your guitar we're all looking for. Good job, Man!

Very cool stuff! I'm not much for worship music, but the feel of this tune is reminiscent of The Iguanas. Are you a fan of Ron Hodges? Great solos, too! Super-sweet tone, Stephen. Nice bite on that Bassman.

(Just so I know I've got the right tune, it's the one titled "Who Is Your Savior," right?)

:wow: You guys are so kind!

Is this where I break the news that the Bassman is in the POD?

Yes, that is the correct tune. I post when song is added, and it's always the first song to play. As far as worship music goes, the band name is "Child of God." Do the math.:nana:

I've never listened to the Iquanas, and I don't know who Ron Hodges is.

Thanks, Keith. Your comments made my morning.

I bet you'd like them. (Not so) coincidentally, they're from N'awlins. Check out "Boom Boom Boom."

While I liked it (the licks, altough the song wasn't hard on the ears ;)) Save Me did it for me.

Carry on then. The LSP seal of approval is bestowed upon ye.

This is good, Stephen! Must have been fun to play. Great tone and tasty playing.

Re: Jazz-rock in Gm

Well, I don't have any comment on the guitar playing. It tastefully accents your sound. I do have some mix suggestions, though. I think:

The guitar should be a fraction closer to center, like the keys. It's only in the right, and I think needs a little left to balance it. It'd also be cool to have the reverb coming(only) from the left. That would give it a really nice spaciousness.

The lead vox is too compressed and excited. It needs some of it's dynamics and midrange back.

The whole mix is mastered too bright and compressed for your style of music- it needs a little more warmth and complexity.

The guitar leads need to be on their own track, with less reverb and be panned center or a tiny bit right. A little more mid and level wouldn't hurt, either, although putting it in the middle will make it louder.

Take the imperative tone with a grain of salt- that's just my ~2¢.

Cool stuff. For so long I didn't have a computer with sound at home, so I'm only now getting back to checking out Tips n Clips

Re: Jazz-rock in Gm

I enjoyed the little guitar solos, kind of a 70's vibe to it. Good work on that.
