Jazz rock

Re: Jazz rock

yeah, this is smokin good

can you tell us all about it? ... your guitar/amp/effects gear? recording gear? are the other musicians live or programmed? ... what was your composition method? chord changes first then melody? or vice versa? or something else entirely?

how many takes to get all that down so tight?

thanks for everything you care to share about it - i am sure it will be most educational to someone like me who has never done anything like genre this but dreams of being able to

Thanks so much for the kind words....the tune was done using Logic Pro 7. I used my '83 strat with 1968 Fender pickups into an Xotic RC booster, A/B box to a 1987 2555 Marshall Silver Jubilee and 2204 Marshall JMP both with 4x12 vintage Marshall cabs /25 watt Celestion greenbacks. All delays and reverb are done in Logic Pro.

As far a the method in composing this tune, I first programmed the drums into 8 bar segments then decided to create an altered dominate (super locrian) groove . The bass was then added and then I kinda improvised the melody on keyboard synth...I then printed out the lead sheet with chord changes and melody and played them on guitar in order to double the melody with the strat. Once all sections were completed, I then edited the drums further with various fills, kicks and dynamics. The tune took about 3 days to complete.
I attended Berklee College of Music in Boston Mass fresh out of high school and played on the road with many rock, funk and top 40 cover bands...this taught me a lot.
I must tell you that I had the priviledge to have studied with some great teachers including Maestro Vincent Bredice, Joe Diorio, William Bresnahan ,Scott Henderson, Carlos Eduardo Arellano and Maestro Joseph Iadone. They all taught me the importance of really learning the fundamentals of music theory ,rhythmic studies, and composition along with transcribing blues ,classical and jazz solos of the greats....Coltrane, Miles, Parker, Monk, Hendrix, Albert King, Freddie King, John McLaughlin, George Benson, Pat Martino, Bill Evans, J.S. Bach, Stravinski, Bartok, Jaco Pastorius, Zawinul, Shorter etc...etc... there is no quick way just lots of hard work and study....find a good private teacher...much luck to you!
