Re: Jazz Songs To Learn

Personally I prefer bossa nova jazz so I'll recommend from this area of jazz.

any of A.C Jobim tunes are great (Buy A.C Jobim Songbook for superb preformnces of most of his famous tunes).

If you're new to jazz the start with the simpler one's - like "How Insensitive" and "The Girl From Ipanema".
later on try "Wave".

"all the things you are", "Blue Bossa" and "autumn leaves" are very recommended also.

Practice on 1-6-2-5 and 2-5-1 progressions which are very common.

Also - don't forget that in order to become a resonable jazz guitarist you have to listen - alot - so here are some great jazz players for you to start with -
Wes Montgomery is great! - I recommend you to listen to him alot.
also try trumpet players like charley parker & Miles davis.

sorry about the mess : )

Obtain a copy of The Real Book ... learn as much as you can.
You have to be able to sight read, tho & know your chord inversions/substitutions.

That's brilliant advice. When are you in the position to post a few clips?

I guess you'd know about the guitar of Baden Powell? And of course my favourite soloist of all time - Stan Getz?

I'd love to hear you play some of that sort of stuff (and help me play that sort of stuff).

Hi lee,
I'm currently working with dudu (Dim7th) on something to bring up here so look around any time soon.
I'm having a real truble capturing my sound in a recording at my home so it will take a while until I could upload bossa playing.

Baden Powell and Stan Getz are great yes!

Oh and by the way! - I almost forgot something -
I can recommend on a great instructional videos by Scott Henderson -
part 1 = Jazz Fusion
Part 2 - Melodic Control
these two are absulotly wonderful!

also - Pat Metheny's stuff are outstanding so try his matirial too!.

Shabat Shalom!
Omri ;)
