I'm looking to swap a lil59 for either a jazz or alnico2 pro for the neck position of my am pro strat. love to hear opinions on what would compliment a custom in the bridge and classic stack plus in middle.

Both great pickups. I think it depends on what you want and play.

Based on your other pickup choices I would guess you’d be happier with the additional clarity of the Jazz.

Worst case scenario you can always just swap the magnet :)

its not, and those are the same pup with different magnets a5 vs a2

Very simple if it’s not covered.

No soldering required, just being careful. Just unwrap the pickup a bit, push the old one out, put the new one in. And they’re cheap.

Plenty of tutorials on YouTube and of course we’re happy to help here.

im assuming 500k pots here. if you have 250k, id go jazz for sure

Re: jazz v alnico2 pro in strat neck

250k is fine if you prefer warmer vs brighter tones

Re: jazz v alnico2 pro in strat neck

If you go Jazz and 250k you can tweak both ways: warmer - swap an A2; brighter - swap to 500k.

Why don't you like the Little 59 neck pu? It's the one Duncan recommends for jazz tone.

Re: jazz v alnico2 pro in strat neck

it just doesn't sound like a true humbucker to me. I love the hot rail and cool rail I have in another strat but the lil59 seems to try but not quite get there. just what I hear.

Re: jazz v alnico2 pro in strat neck

i dont think any of the single coil sized side by side buckers sound like full sized buckers, the lil 59 doesnt sound much like a 59 for example. still a decent pup. i prefer it in the bridge over the neck. the cool rail in the neck sounds pretty damn good though

Re: jazz v alnico2 pro in strat neck

The Cool Rails is a much more 'open' and 'clearer' sound. I still dig the Alnico II Pro.
