Hi,

SD Jazz vs DMZ Humbucker From Hell

NECK Position........CLEAN Tones

Anyone ever compare the two? What's your two cents?

Thanks!

Re: Jazz vs Humbucker From Hell

SD jazz is smooth and clean
DMZ HFH is more like a single coil like tone *clear and crisp

IMO

I personally like the Jazz (n) pickup .. I have always wanted to try a HFH.. it sounds nice in theory..

maybe a Stag Mag is something to consider? It's like 2 single coils side by side, and splits well.. just a thought

Re: Jazz vs Humbucker From Hell

HFH is a surprising neck pickup - its louder and punchier than you would think, very addictive cleans although to my ears never really single coil like. From a tone standpoint I feel HFH-PAFJoe-PafPro-Fred all have an almost percussive quality that make them unique as neck pickups, and each highlights a different kind of midrange voice that has more of that vowel like 'wah' voicing as you get to the higher output ones.

That quality is also what turns some folks off them i.e. the dont sound like a Jazz or a PGN, which to me have a liquid singing quality and seem to let the guitars natural tone through more. Jazz will sound more varied in different guitars e.g. I've seem some folks complain a Jazz is too bright and some complain its too dark.

Just my experience - nothing is absolute :)
