If you had to justify why a Jazzmaster with Seymour Duncan SJM-2 pickups (Jazzmaster Hots) was significantly noisier through one amp than any other amp - and this problem was not found to recur with other guitar through that amp, nor the same guitar and different amps - what might the reason be?
Further background: The amp combination which produces the questionable noise result is a Vox AC4C1 , coupled with said guitar. The problem does not occur with a different guitar into the Vox (one equipped with SJAG-2 (Jaguar Hots.) The Jazzmaster makes a much more reasonable amount of noise when played into my audio interface, a small generic solid state practice/test amp, or my Silverface Champ. The noise even occurs when both RWRP pickups are selected - the odd thing is, through the other amps it’s obvious the middle position hum-cancels. Yet through the Vox, the middle position is noisier than any other; same cable. I can’t seem to find any grounding issue, and to reiterate, the Vox is fine with any other guitar and the Jazzmaster fine with any other amp.
Further thought - the SJM-2 neck vs. Bridge have very different DCR values, while the SJAG-2 neck vs. bridge are nearly equal; does this mean the SJM set would never cancel as much noise as the SJAGs due to this disparity? Is it possible the greater output of the SJMs would cause them to be noisier - even when both pickups are selected and hum-cancelling?
Last thought - Jaguar pickups are better shielded, which would account for them having less noise than Jazzmaster pickups selected individually. But for two paired RWRP, should that even matter? After all, HH Gibson’s are seldom shielded at all.
