jazzmaster pickups in a strat?

tell me! who's done it? what's it like? I just care about the tone. I know that I might have to rework the pickguard (finally good reason to use that old guard I have laying around!) and maybe even have to hack in the guitar. No biggy. I am aiming for clarity and warmth, transparency, openness, but not the raunchy dirtyness of a p90. john mayer meets J.Mascis....
