Jazzmaster wiring

Hey guys I have been thinking about putting concentric pots on my jazzmaster so that I have a tone and a volume for each pickup (similar to a les paul) but i can't find a diagram or anything like that. I e-mailed the customer service for seymour duncan but in the auto response it said they don't do one off diagrams so that probably isn't going to help much. Can you guys help me at all? It doesn't matter to me if the circuit at the top that overrides everything is still usable or not ( i never use it) any help you can provide would be great. Thanks!

Re: Jazzmaster wiring

Keep in mind that the actual wiring diagram doesn't change with concentric pots from standard pots. So, electrically, its the same as an LP or SG. Just the terminals are closer.

Make sense?

Re: Jazzmaster wiring

You are just stacking the two pots and instead of grounding to the top of the pot you ground to the side of the pot. I think this would work, although I'm not sure which pot uses which shaft?

Re: Jazzmaster wiring

For this idea to work, the volume and tone controls have to occur in the circuit BEFORE the three-way selector switch. (Just like they do on a Les Paul.) The combination of this extra wiring and the Rhythm circuit switch could easily lead to a trainwreck.

If you make no use of the imfamous Rhythm circuit controls on the upper edge of the pickguard, these could be reassigned as the individual controls for your neck position pickup. The original master volume and master tone could then be reassigned to only work on the bridge position pickup. Each set of newly reassigned control pots would still need to be in circuit before the three-way selector switch.

Re: Jazzmaster wiring

^that is a good point about the rhythm circuit, but i really don't like any of that stuff up there I just want to use the bottom controls.
seymourduncan responded to my e-mail with "go to guitarelectronics.com"
they charge $30 for a diagram. but even if I do that i still have to find the parts.
I can't seem to find 1meg concentric pots.
so that brings us to 500k, I can find those but now i need to look at audio v. linear taper
I have read that you usually want audio for volume and linear for tone but according to the seymour duncan jazzmaster wiring diagram it's the other way around on jazzmasters? http://www.seymourduncan.com/pdfs/support/schematics/jazzmaster.pdf
this is getting confusing, can anyone offer help?

Re: Jazzmaster wiring

Unless you are slavishly attempting to recreate vintage specifications, there are no hard and fast rules about pot resistance values and tapers. I have my own personal preferences about these matters but I shall not bore you with them here.

I am not a great fan of 1MegOhm pots. The only application in which I consider them essential is the Fender Jaguar. Any other pot value screws up the unique Jaguar sound.

Others will disagree with me. Who is to say that they are wrong?

Re: Jazzmaster wiring

I understand the 1 megs and 500k and 250k and i think i might end up liking the 500ks anyway but i'm still confused about the tapers
what will do what?
i'm interested to hear what you have to say about tapers honestly
