Artie is using 1 500k resistor the same as using 2 1megs in parallel? It seems so from the article. Maybe 500k's aren't easy to get a hold of? I've seen 470's in Radio Shack if I remember right.

Yes, exactly. Any time you have two resistors of the same value, they combine in parallel to equal half their value. Two 1 meg's equal 500k, two 500k's equal 250, two 250k's equal 125k, etc.

And you are also correct - 470k's are easier to find.
