JB and 59?

Re: JB and 59?

I'd go that route. With the tones you're describing I think you'll like the Jazz better than a '59 for the neck position. The bridge pickup really depends on how your specific guitar sounds. If it's dark or bass-heavy the JB is a better bet than the Custom. The Custom was definitely too fat in the bridge of my LP. longcat has a JB/Jazz set in her LP Studio and it sounds great; it can also be painfully bright depending on the guitar. I've had a Custom/Jazz set in my Explorer since 2003 or so and they're just amazing in that guitar. Can you tell the Jazz is my favorite neck pickup for heavy rock / metal?
Yea, the Jazz seems nice and clean, which means it ought to take distortion without turning into mud like my guitar does now.

The JB is I guess how yall say it is. Could be great, could be ice-picky, or even for some muddy and dark.

JB and 59

Of course, as others have stated, there's no set rule. Each plank of wood is different.

Re: JB and 59?

I have installed a set of gold 59/JB pickups in my custom 2012 Gibson Les Paul Supreme and the combination of the two are excellent.

Re: JB and 59?

Well, I've got a guitar with the JB/59' setup, so I might as well add a couple sample tracks too. Grain of salt and all that still, but I figured it couldn't hurt. Mahogany body and neck, rosewood fretboard, Ernie Ball Regular Slinky strings, Fender 351 Medium pick. First half of each is the JB SH-4 in the bridge position, and the second half is the 59' in the neck. Just a quick amping with Bias. I would have rather miced my actual amp, but unfortunately I live in an apartment these days and don't get to crank that thing like I want anymore. :-/

Re: JB and 59?

Gives me restored appreciation for the JB/59 combo.

Yeah, it's a great set. No matter how many guitars I'll ever have lying around, I'll always have one with that combo on hand. Blew my mind just now, scrolling through the forums and I read "Are all JB's virtually unusable?". Come on now.
