I really enjoy playing stuff like Ratt, Motley Crue etc using my LP with Antiquities or my Gibby 2neck with the Seth in the bridge over my LP with the the JB. I also am usually right in front of the amp and those guitars sound so much clearer, while still having massive distortion if you know what I mean. I can pick out a chord and hear the notes better than with the JB, which I really like in my hollow body Epi Casino belive it or not! Sounds much more full, with no ice pickiness in that guitar than in the LP.

The brobucker is going to replace the JB in the LP. If I don't like that, then another Seth.

What about the custom?

I certainly like it better than the JB, more versatile and musical to my ears.
In my Les Paul the bottom end doesn't sound as tight and defined, though.

The JB is a great hair metal pickup, no doubt. I have a couple of Str@t body guitars with JB's and they're the greatest for pinch harmonics. My Robin Medley came with a Custom and I couldn't get the pinch harmonics happening. I pulled it out and dropped in a JB and the harmonics are right there. Ya can't do 80's metal without pinch harmonics!

The JB's also got that agressive attack and snarling upper mids and high end that will give your palm muted riffs the authentic 80's metal sound.

I do have some guitars that came with JB's and I took them out. For instance, I have a Hamer Studio (24 3/4" scale and TOM bridge) and the JB sounded dead in that guitar. I have a Pearly Gates in the bridge now and I love the high end sparkle and the attack I get with the PG.

I haven't found the JB to be the right pickup in all my guitars, but I've got a couple that I put a JB in and it's staying!

SMauk43, another option you could try is the PATB1 Trembucker or the Blues Trembucker. The PATB1 is warmer, not ice picky at all, but raw and crunchy. I recently put a Blues Trembucker in a non trem guitar I have and I like the sound a lot. It's probably gonna get taken out again though because I got a pair of Duncan 50th Anniversary pickups that I'm strongly considering putting in that guitar.

I still say that either a) Maiden, Priest etc were likely using Superdistortions, or b) the real "hair" guys could have used anything the sound was so processed.

Or is this a "I love the JB" thread in disguise?!?!?!?!

I've got the Super D in another guitar and it will do the Maiden/Priest thing for sure. I like the Super a lot. Just wanting a different set in the other guitar.
As far as being an I love the JB thread. I didn't start it to be. I've never owned a single Seymour Duncan, yet....So if it turns to a JB lovin' thread, ain't my fault LOL!!!:banana:
