JB > BB3 < APH 2

.,,been jammin my new JB / Jazz for while now. It’s does it’s designed job n cuts the jam mix, Singing Leeds. Shines when up to volume in jam room.
Home use, kinda fizzi n sterile.
Not much warmth In the lows..
I got a BB3 in a V that gives me a more pleasing tone with good break up..I have not compared JB / BB3 at jam volume, only home use.
I’m thinking could it’ be the Alnico ll style pup APH2 what I’m wanting??

Try a JB with a 250K volume pot. Warms it right up.

I've heard an unoriented A5 magnet sounds good with a JB as well, but I have yet to try it.

Yeah, just the volume pot. You can leave the tone pots at 500K.

You can also change the Jazz to 250K if you want. It's bright enough to handle it. That's how my JB/Jazz combo is set up.

Ultimately it's down to personal preference of course.

For me, the JB2 wasn't a whole lot different than a regular JB. It is like the personality of the wind is more important than the magnet.

And with an Alnico 8 it still sounds like a JB

JB2 with a Seth or even keeping the Jazz was a better combo for me. IME the JB2 is like a really loud Whole Lotta Humbucker.

Ya ya got me.. the Bb definitely produces
a warmer bottom/ to mid bass chunk.
not as Mid driven. I definitely lost some note separation and pinch squeals but the trade off is a good so far.
we’ll see what jam room volume says..
They might just go back in..
Also installed a 498t in a V Pro..
definitely compares to th JB distortion with less bawlk n Honk..
Probably all the reasons JB cuts through so we’ll….

i understand 250 migh give me the fix with the JB’s but I’ve read it’s similar to turning V pot down n amp up??
tried it n didn’t sound good…

i dont think thats true. a jb with a 250k pot isnt the same as turning the volume pot down at all. you dont lose much output, it just pushes the mid peak down a bit

Yeah I wanna second the comment above. Turning down the volume pot does not simulate a lower value pot.

Unlike a tone pot which does, due to the way they are wired. Which is why I suggested leaving the tone pots at 500K, because you can always turn them down.

However, for the volume pot, a lower value adjusts the upper mids as descri​bed above, removing some of the harshness.
