When it's in split mode with the de-mud mod (the values in my sig), and split from the white wire (so the mod applies to the split tone as well), then it sounds really Strat-like. More Strat-like than the normal split tone -- cleaner, clearer, glassier.
But the series clean tone is pretty good if you manage to dial in the pickup right. It's pretty sensitive to height, so getting it just right is important. For the JB, most of the time I think, the higher the better, so the mids sound full and balanced with the upper-mids and bass. It takes some tinkering, but it's well worth it and can make all the difference. When you get it just right, it's warm, full, glassy, and harmonically rich.

As much as I love the JB, I don't really like ANY pickup in the bridge position for clean tones. But that's just me. Clean always sounds better from the neck, or better, middle position.

in stock form, i never liked it's cleans in series but loved it split to slug. with an a2 in there, i find the cleans warmer, smoother, all that good stuff.

While that is true, in a live situation it can be a compromise. For example, I have to switch from a heavy bridge tone to a clean tone with chorus - so I already have to change amp channels and add chorus. To switch pickups becomes more of a hassle so I just tweak my clean channel extra bassy and warm so it works with the bridge pickup. anyone do this?

i do a few things to get cleaned up. either i roll my volume down, cut a coil from my bridge(sg), coil swap and lower a bit(epiphones) turn my distortion off, i switch to my already lowered neck pickup, or some combination thereof.

though going from a full humbucker sound to a coil cut while playing live can potentially make your sound completely lost in the mix; you even risk that switching from bridge the neck, especially when there's heavy distortion involved.

My only JB bridge is in a 2 humbucker guitar. As it is wired I have only the full HB option, and split options combined with a split Jazz neck in both series and parallel.
The full HB clean tone is not my favorite. Maybe I haven't spent enough time dialing in the height etc., but to me it is clanky and metallic sounding .... not very musical. It's great for distortion and and both split combinations with the Jazz neck are amazing clean.
