JB - how do I get different metal plate?

I want to put a JB in my EVH guitar but it doesn't fit into the cavity. Does SD make the JB with a different metal plate (don't know what to call it) so it fits in the EVH pickup cavity?

I've seen them in some guitars (Charvel) but I never see them available on the open market.

I`m assuming your talking about the the Ernie Ball/Music Man guitar? I`m sure one of the tech gurus here can chime in about replacing the baseplate. To get the JB to fit as is your gonna have to grind the mounting tabs on the legs to more of a Dimarzio shape. It`s been years since I did with the Axis I had or Wolfgang for that matter , but I think your gonna have to remove some wood out of the pickup cavity also. If it was me I`d leave the stock pickups or use a Dimarzio since they`ll drop right in. It just seems like a lot of work to get a Duncan in there.

Are you saying the legs are too long?

You should have difficulty finding a trade partner, most people need the long legs.

I didn't think about that , if you've got a long legged JB don't even think about putting that in the bridge of and EVH/Axis/Wolfgang unless of course you can fit the JB coils on a Dimarzio type baseplate

Sorry - should have said it was a EVH Wolfgang from Fender. It has the rounded baseplate so the square ends from a SD won't fit. I think the SH4 TB has a rounded edge. I also want a 59 in the neck. The EVH pups are good but I like the JB and 59 a lot more. Guitar players geez we can be picky :)

A chisel and a hammer can take care of that, so you can put any p'up you want in the future.

Grind the baseplate ears so they're less rectangular. I had to do this to put Duncans in a BC Rich that originally had direct-mount Dimarzios.

Didn't Evan say they're making the EVH Pickups for Fender?

You might be able to order a JB with the EVH baseplate - dunno if that'd be a shop floor custom or a custom shop order.
