What i did was since i knew it was a keeper i sniped the edges off the pu's baseplate legs with cutters,came out fine and fit great.
the sharp corners of the legs are the only obstacle fitting into a EVH direct mount guitars like the peavey,Ebmm,EVH or any guitar that has direct mount pu's

A brass baseplate might mellow the JB's frequency response.

I agree the brass will change the JB's character. I once put tone zone coils on a nickle plate and that TZ actually sounded better!:eyecrazy:
I know dimarzio uses brass for cost reasons but many dont realize that the brass material actually effects the tone of the pup. ask any pup winder who knows his **** about pu's:cool2:

I have a Super Distortion with a nickle silver plate. It didn't change the character completely, but it did move the emphasis from the low mid and it sharpened the treble response.
