JB in 86 Charvel Model 2 (Basswood) single pickup...will 250K pot make a difference?

It's actually my 87' Charvel.

250k vs. the 500k pot it has now. I like the way leads play but I want it to be a little less harsh, was thinking about switching it out with a CC, but then I read where JB is recommended with a 250K pot..but is that for a guitar with more than one pup?

I have a JB in my partscaster. I also have a CS6 carvin I put a custom custom in, and it was a little too muddy for my tastes. I ended up doing some research and swapping out the alnico 5 magnet in the jb putting it in the custom custom, and the alnico 2 from the custom custom in the jb. The partscaster with the jb sounds amazing. It calmed down the jb. BTW, the parts caster has a single 500k pot.

In your case you can also solder in a resistor on your pot to simulate a 250k pot to see if you like it instead of swapping out the while thing. See the link below.

250K pots do make JBs a little bit thicker and less harsh, you might find a small treble loss though. Doesn't matter if it's one pot or two, but the volume pot affects the tone the most.

The easy way to tell; Turn the tone knob down to about 7.2 or so….roughly (but not exactly) the same thing.

I say go for it. I like Gibson 300k's in my screamers. Just "takes the edge" off of them IMO.
