JB in an Alder body, with Maple Neck and Ebony Fretboard

Re: JB in an Alder body, with Maple Neck and Ebony Fretboard

JB in alder with 250k pots = win
what some people might call midrange honk, others might say cuts thru the mix like a hot knife thru butter.
JB is not the best for bedroom shredding, but its smashing when the band is smoking.

Re: JB in an Alder body, with Maple Neck and Ebony Fretboard

There also seems to be this notion that a tighter bottom end is unanimously a better one. Where the hell did that come from? I think it makes stuff sound sterile for the most part. And darth. I c wat u did ther.

Dat's what I'm talkin' 'bout holmes.

No additional winds on the DD or the C5. Like Foreigner calls it...head games.

I tried to post a clip of an MJ wound JB but the eh hmm... "moderators" apparently won't let it through. If you want PM me and I'll send you some sound clips of the JB alder clean and dirty...

there are TONs of clips of the JB in action... all the albums it's been used on for over 3 decades! oh SNAP!

Re: JB in an Alder body, with Maple Neck and Ebony Fretboard

True darth guy. But obviously there has likely been Eq'ing and other processing on albums. I was offering the sound "in the raw" Warren DeMartini's tone as a prime example puts the beauty and complexity of the venerable JB front and center!

The JB with 250k pots is what's in my YouTube vids.

Re: JB in an Alder body, with Maple Neck and Ebony Fretboard

Nice playing and tone Wolf I can see why the 250k pots work for you for that type of tone. I'm more of a balls out metal guy so I like all the bite and aggressiveness of 500k pots...

Re: JB in an Alder body, with Maple Neck and Ebony Fretboard

Yeah Duncan actually designed the JB for 250k pots didn't he? So it's a mighty exception.

Depends on the DiMartini tone in reference. Hasn't always used a JB.

That would be great!

Re: JB in an Alder body, with Maple Neck and Ebony Fretboard

But wouldn't it give too much emphasis on the High End? Especially with Alder and Ebony?

It's not quite like alder is a bright wood. You might be putting a bit too much thought into it. Consider this....pots are relatively inexpensive, even the good ones. Find a 500k and a 250k in a good brand like Bourn or CTS. Then try them both.

Re: JB in an Alder body, with Maple Neck and Ebony Fretboard

Look man the bulk of DeMartini's recorded guitar sounds have been with a JB from Out of the Cellar to very recent RTM! You just want to be contrarian "Darth" whatever the F!
