Blown away by the way it sounds in my charvel san dimas.
I have 3 Les Pauls with all differant duncans but never tried a JB in the bridge.
Do they work in a Les Paul, What to expect. Just for reference I have a
SH-5 in the Les Paul that may get the swap.

Re: Jb in Les Paul, Any Users?

The general consensus seems to lean toward it being bad in an LP, but some do like it.

Re: Jb in Les Paul, Any Users?

the other guitar player in one of my bands uses a jb in the bridge of one lp and a custom in the bridge of his other. he likes em both

Re: Jb in Les Paul, Any Users?

JB really shines in alder bodies but some really like in Mahogany LPs also. For example, Alex Skolnick from testament.

Re: Jb in Les Paul, Any Users?

Dont plan on using the A5 it comes with..

why not? some people, like adam and will, get great tone with the jb in a lp. not for everyone but it sound good in my buddys guitar too

The A5 in the JB with mahogany is pretty hit or miss with most people saying its like an ice pick. There are exceptions of course but thats all I hear about with the JB and is what happened to me with my brief JB experience. Its too bad I never mag swapped back then.

Re: Jb in Les Paul, Any Users?

im not sure why so many people think the jb is that bright. its not my favorite pup and does have a big upper mid peak but something like a 59 or almost any paf is noticeably brighter. i do much prefer it with an alnico II magnet but i tend to prefer alnico II almost all the time

Someone here a couple years ago referred to the JB's tone and spike as sounding 'like a dentist's drill', which is pretty funny, but there's some truth to it too. It's not just the brightness, it's also the nature of the brightness. A '59 has an open, clear type of treble, the JB's is different. Not as pleasant.

Re: Jb in Les Paul, Any Users?

I don't agree with the "dentist drill" description.

But in the wrong guitar, chords under gain have a distinct "someone blowing their nose" quality to them.

Re: Jb in Les Paul, Any Users?

I recently recorded some short video tests of the JB on a Les Paul and also the SH5 on Youtube - both videos recorded exactly the same settings.

hope thes help

Re: Jb in Les Paul, Any Users?

Although I consider JB as a very versatile pickup it is perfect for Metal and thats what I mainly use it for. So that "dentist drill" or "someone blowing their nose" quality is perfect for what I do. I love the shrieking metal tones it give me. After all, these are very subjective matters that someone should try and find out by (him/her)self.

Re: Jb in Les Paul, Any Users?

Thanks for the comparison, Matt.

I hear the Custom as more balanced, and smoother,

The JB is, well...snottier.
