JB in the neck.

Yes hello everyone. I have a jb trembucker and a regular jb here. I was thinking instead a buyin another jazz model I might just try the jb in the neck. The guitar is a contemporary strat. Black with a maple fretboard. I could put them in my white one with rosewood to though. Anyone ever tried this ?

Re: JB in the neck.

High DCR pickups can live in the neck slot (I've one with a 18k neck PU) but with an inductance of 7.8H, a JB might sound a bit hot for that if the host guitar is naturally bassy. In which case it's still possible to apply a strategy to tame it - trick one: wire the neck JB in parallel; strategy two: put a cap between the two coils in series like in the Invader neck... or go further with the "de-mud mod" explained somewhere in this forum by our fellow member ArtieToo; non limitative list, to complete ad. lib.

Re: JB in the neck.

I've tried two JBs in one Tele before and it worked better than you would expect. If you have them on hand, why not give it a try and see if you like it. That's a much better way to find out if you like it than asking us.

Re: JB in the neck.

The Tommy Thayer LP has 2 JBs in it, so it is being done. I thought I remember a Charvel or 2 several years ago that came like that, as well. I think a series/parallel switch is helpful here, however, it all depends on what you use the neck pickup for.

Re: JB in the neck.

About a decade ago there were a bunch of guys here doing this. A little searching should return a ton of results.

Re: JB in the neck.

Lots of guys used to do two SuperDistortions in a guitar before Super 2/3/etc.

JB in the neck is a bold statement for solos. YMMV for rhythm work, and as said - volume differential could be an issue in some guitars.

All about how you are going to use it and the guitar. The JB neck lead sound is amazeballs, IMO....

Re: JB in the neck.

I thought Jackson did it and they made an SH-4n model just for it where they merely turned a JB around and printed the logo on the slug coil?

Re: JB in the neck.

Thanks to everyone. Yea I just play at home. I'm real good yet. I have 5 strats . I tend to like 2 humbuckers the best. My cheapest one has a distiorn in the bridge and a jazz in the neck but it sounds the best of all of them.

Re: JB in the neck.

So if I use the trembucker in the bridge and the regular one in the neck I should flip it around with the screws towards the neck huh. I didn't think about that. I will probably just buy another jazz. Thanks again everyone. I'm new to the wireing but thanks to you guys I have started doing all my own work. Sure saves me alot of money.
