JB is a hummin

Just got through installing a JB in the bridge position. Rewired the entire guitar. I have done this many times and feel pretty confident in my abilities. One problem though. I am getting a hum with the volume pot at 10 and not touching the guitar. I touch the guitar and it gets quieter. I know this is usually a grounding issue, but I have double checked and resoldered everything. I have another humbucker in the neck position and a 3 way Gibson style switch. Any suggestions?

It's a tremolo and I'm grounding to the spring claw. The pickup before this one did not hum. This hum is not like a Strat hum but its getting there.

Every electrical part has to be connected into one big network; miss one & you get noise. That's your problem. See if you missed a pot or switch, and that all your solders are firm. We all screw this up once in a while.

But why is it, even after everything is wired right, still some guitars hum more than others? Sometimes you can compare two same model guitars and one will be noisier than the other and when you look at them, they're wired identically and all connections are proper.

Re: JB is a hummin

My Epi goth LP is like that I have rewired it no less than 5 times once with an entire new harness....yes I grounded the bridge..it was dead quiet stock, but since my first pup change in it, it has been a hummer.....I have given up on it,its a rude SOB anyways
1 hand is always either on strings or the bridge...that keeps it quiet and vol pedal off between songs....its an annoyance to thing about, but really a non issue when playing.

I just played a student's hot rails and it's hummin' with as much hum as my strat with regular singles in it. We were both plugged into the same amp. I checked his wiring and it's right, just like the diagram. But it's got 60 cycle hum. I thought I remembered those being hum cancelling.

Re: JB is a hummin

Just figured it out. It turns out my amp was in the process of blowing out a tube at the same time I wired in the JB pickup. Did a retube and adjusted the bias on the amp and it be fixed! Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
