Jb & Jazz help

This is my first post and I need help. I just put the jazz and JB in an Ibanez SZ520. The switching set up has a 3way 4 pole toggle which uses the inside coils of each pickup in the middle position. I could not get the neck pickup to work when I installed the wires on the same terminals that the old wires came from. Now both pickups work but the middle position sound s the same as the neck pickup . Also my neck volume is now almost like an on off switch with very little sweep.
I cannot find a schematic for a set up like this and the one I got from the Ibanez site was different than the actual wiring in the guitar, both colors and a few wires. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Jb & Jazz help

The switch on the SZ guitars is the same switch that Ibanez used for the John Petrucci models (JPM100) a few years ago. Use this diagram as a guide:

http://ibanez.com/wiring/wire.asp?y=1999&w=JPM100

And use this table to figure out the Duncan color codes:

Dimarzio Green = Duncan Green
Dimarzio White = Duncan Red
Dimarzio Red = Duncan Black
Dimarzio Black = Duncan White

Hope this helps!

Re: Jb & Jazz help

Sorry to resurect this old post but it seems to be the only one that deals with my problem. So...

I just got a 2003 Ibanez SZ520 and I am replacing the pickups with JB/Jazz combo. Could you help me out and point me to the right diagram? The link in the previous post is not working.

The guitar has individual volume pots for each pup, one tone pot and a 3 way switch that looks kind of strange (12 legs).

Someone point me to the right diagram? Please ....

Re: Jb & Jazz help

Most of the time when I get a new instrument I gut all of the cheap stock electronics/pickups out and put in some American pots/switches/jacks/wire/caps.This way I know I will get the most out of my guitar and not risk any problems in the future.

Re: Jb & Jazz help

Problems solved.

I ended up looking for the diagrams for a more recent (05-06) model on Ibanez's site with similar pots and switch like in my 03 model. I discovered that the 2005 SZ2020FM has Duncan designed pickups with similar pots and switch and wirings diagrams with 5 wires. So I tried that and it works perfectly.

I know this thread looks more like a monologue but I hope it will help someone else in the future. Thanks.

Re: Jb & Jazz help

Don't kill me for directing you to the DiMarzio website, but that's where the schematic is, lol:

http://www.dimarzio.com/media/diagrams/D.pdf

I got an RG 620QM with the same switch as you have in your SZ, and wired it using that schematic. Just reverse the position of the RED and BLACK wires if you are using Seymour Duncan pups, the schematic uses DiMarzio color coding.
Hope this solves your worries!
