JB /Jazz “hot rodded” set for 70bucks?

Hi guys,

I saw a used JB/Jazz set for 70CHF plus shipping on the classifieds. Here it goes for 140CHF new.

The questions are: Is it a good deal? So good to grab it even if I don’t need it? And (don’t burn me for this because I know this is te SEYMOUR DUNCAN forum) a set of Toneriders (Rocksong or Generator) sells for a bit less new, They have great reviews but they are not seymour duncans.

I have a HSS Pacifica, an SG, Les Paul, and Starfire. Also an Epi LP with crappy pickups. Most of them are for sale (just in case someone bites) as I only play the SG. The SG plays and sounds great, so I don’t want to change anything. Plus it has the old PCB (black 2-point pickup connector) that may require changing the whole wiring just for the pickups...

Last, I may be mistaken, but I thought that the JB and the Jazz had the SD logo written on one of the coils (see picture).

Cheers,
Walt

Price is a good deal. Also, you can get Duncans with or without a logo. You'd have to check the sticker on the back to see which model it is.

A no brainer IMHO. Incredibly flexible set.

My motto is When in doubt, buy. If it's a good deal you can always resell.

I'd pass. There are deals on PU's that I'd actually use.

I asked the seller for more picks and I’m glad I did. On the back both have the SD logo but one says SH-4 (JB) and the other SH-1n (59 neck, right?).

How would this compare to the Hot Rodded one? I already bought a Jazz/JB set but I could use the extra JB for another guitar and sell the 59. The 59 usually comes with a braided single connector but this one has all for colora plus the bare, I guess this is also an option.

I think the JB & 59 would probably be a good set for your new Tele.

I think that, for that price, you should go for it and wire them with splits.
If I hadn't bought the Everything Axe set for my Strat a few months ago, I would snap that set up for that price.

Do it. The Epi is SCREAMING for them....

I have that same set in my Ibanez RG. I did have it in my PRS SE Singlecut Korina. Great in both guitars. You'd be happy putting it nearly anywhere.

I got the set! Looks very well taken care of and had the box and all screws and springs.

I measured the DCR amd the JB was 16.6kOhm (exactly as advertised) but the Jazz was 7.07kOhm instead of 7.5k Should I be worried or is this normal?

It has no logo, long legs, and it looks to me like the sticker says SH1N. I suspect it's a '59, not a Jazz.

And nah. 7.07 sounds normal.

Sorry, is not de one from the photo. I found another set in a "hot rodded set pack" and the pickups aer SH-4 and SH-2n. Still should be ok, right?

Yes, there are variances.
Perfectly normal. You're good!

Thanks! Another question:

I noticed that the legs have no threads! Is not that they have been ripped or damaged, they are just smooth. Is this common? Or is there a version that comes like this for direct mounting them?

I’m going for that! I have a three-way for neck-both-bridge.

But I have to switches to split the neck to the screw and the bridge to the slug. That way when I have both pickups on, I should get hum cancelling, right?

Someone with more knowledge than I have will have to confirm that. I kind of wish I had another guitar to put a JB/ 59 set in, or Distortions; the Mayhem set is cheaper new than some individual Duncan pickups.
