JB/Jazz in my guitar!

I have to say, these are by far most definetely THE best pickups i have ever played. I was actually expecting the JB too sound really trebly, especially since my SG is alder-bodied...but no, it's got a nice beefy sound to it, but still "sparkly" and bright. But not too bright..it's bloody perfect! And the crunch..my god, it's almost orgasmic. Definetely beats my pair of '59's in my other guitar...even though, they come close. I just wanted to share this with you lovely people :-P.

Re: JB/Jazz in my guitar!

Some people keep saying the JB is a bright pickup, implying that it's to trebley...and it's not. The "brightness" people refer to is not what I'd call treble...it's more of an upper midrange thing. Anyways, congratulations...you've got a great pickup combo there! Lew

Re: JB/Jazz in my guitar!

It's definetely not too trebly, i did have to change my settings from the last lot of distortion i used with the '59's, since i deliberately made it sound bright because the pickups we're so bassy, but this doesn't need that at all. You just need to tweak the settings to suit the pickups, anyhow..i didn't comment on the Jazz! It's absolutely beautiful in clean, it has the perfect amount of bass, without too much treble...sounds fantastic!! The pickups complement each other perfectly. I play classic rock to hard rock...and some very mellow stuff...these are a very versatile pair of pickups in my opinion! If i had another guitar, i'd put these in without a second thought :-D.

Re: JB/Jazz in my guitar!

Glad to hear that, Dave!

I told you you were gonna like that combo. Another redeemed soul into the JB/Jazz realm... :) Like you said, they are extremely versatile and toneful. You've got the swiss army of guitar tones right there.

Congratulations and enjoy the hell out of them! :fingersx:

Re: JB/Jazz in my guitar!

that's a very encouraging report. I am contemplating on putting that same set into my Epiphone Les Paul. Everyone seems to dis the Gibson "designed" pups that came with my Epi, and about how much of an improvement a set of Duncans would be. Problem is i love the tone i get at the moment, and i have never heard a JB in action, i like to play before i pay. I just can't help imagine that my tone "could" be better.

Re: JB/Jazz in my guitar!

Tell you what guys, I listened to several people on this forum say that the JB sounded awful in a mahogany guitar, etc. One guy described it as the absolute worst pickup you could put in a mahogany bodied guitar. Well, I just put a nickel covered Jazz/JB combo in my Les Paul, both split series parallel for hum cancelling single coil capability. My Les Paul has never sounded better. The JB is very cutting, very in your face, and just rocks. The jazz is very sweet for clean tones in the Les Paul. No mud, and almost has sort of a Tele neck pickup tone. The only (and I do mean only) drawback to the jazz, would be for playing blues specifically. Don't get me wrong, it still sounds great and does still have some of that nice PAF vibe but you may prefer say a '59 or Pearly Gates for that really deep warm Santana type of necky sustain when overdriven. The clean tones of the jazz are very nice indeed, with sparkling highs and no mud. I would recommend trying this combo in your Les Paul or even Epiphone LP. I have friends telling me how FAT my Les Paul sounds since I put the JB in there. The big mids really cut through man!

Definetely get Seymour pups! The Epiphone stock pickups are NOTHING compared to Seymour pups...honest to god, You won't regret it! Just make sure you research it alot before you buy, if you can't get the 21 day guarantee....I had to do that since i'm from the UK, and the guarantee doesn't really apply over here. Not that i know of anyway...Anyhow, Alot of famous/professional musicians use Seymour Duncan because of thier brilliant tone and quality, i definetely recommend that you look into it!

Re: JB/Jazz in my guitar!

The JB defintly does not sound Trebely. It does have that Upper midrange PEEk but that is also not ICE PICKY.

Re: JB/Jazz in my guitar!

I'm gonna have to say I love that combo as well... Which is why I ordered the Mustaine Set!! :)

Rock On ~ kac

i have the JB/ Jazz combo in my Ibanez RGA121 (right most guitar, above). the JB is rich in lower midrange, 'trebly' isn't the right adjective for it.
