JB + Jazz vs. SH-6 + SH-6.. for heavy music

Which choice would be better. I'm looking at 2 different guitars, both are Edwards Les Pauls with Maple caps. I'm mainly a rhythm player, trying to learn some lead stuff, but will be a while lol.

Wanting something that is good for heavy drop tuned riffing and will respond well to palm muting and dynamics.

One has the JB/Jazz combo and the other has 2 Duncan Distortions in it.

What do you think?

I think you would like the Distortions, but the Jb in my opinion would sound too bright and peircing.

Nah, I wouldn't worry about the JB being too bright. I wouldn't use it for the styles you mentioned because the low end is too loose and flabby. Go with the Distortions. They'll have a tighter low end and more scream for solos.

I've never tried the dual distortion, but I've tried the Jazz/JB. I used to own a guitar with it. With the splits and the right effects and amp, it's versatile beyond belief. I would suggest it over anything else only for the versatility factor (what if surf music, for example, rose from the dead and became more popular than nu-metal? lol )

If you plan to only, and I mean only, play heavy styles, take my advice and get the dual distortion set. I'm not experienced, like I said, with super heavy styles or the Dual Distortion set, but that's just my opinion. Just my 2 cents.

My problem is I have and love my Strat. I put Hot Rails in it and coil tapped them and it's definately a versatile guitar, just doesn't quite get me where I wanna be in the heavy category. It's great for like AC/DC, Wolfmother and stuff.

But when I wanna play something in Drop C or something, it's just not cutting it. So I was looking at these Edwards LP's.

I have a Dean Hardtail that I put that same combo in JB (B) and Jazz (N). I love it. Plus it has coil taps. I just got a PRS SE Singlecut and had a JB put in bridge position. That pickup is so versatile. You talk about drop tuning, well Lamb of God run drop D I believe on all their albums. Mark Morton's signature Jackson has two '59's in it. Willie Adler's signature ESP has a JB in the bridge and a '59 in the neck on a Les Paul type body. I think you will be surprised how good the JB will sound for drop tunings. I play this type music and these are not muddy or too thin sounding.

The DD will have more balls, low end chunk and harmonics. But the tone isn't nearly as sweet or organic as a JB. The JB still works very well for heavy music. It all comes down to what you like better; alnico or ceramic, sweetness or hotness.
